Michael Dwane Hammonds, 56, of Amarillo died Wednesday, February 5, 2020.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, February 10, 2020 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Brandon Moore officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Dwane was born March 24, 1963 in Amarillo to Shirley Conway and Mike Hammonds.  He was a lifelong resident of Amarillo graduating from Palo Duro High School in 1981.  Working for Texas Blue Lake Pools, he learned a very valuable trade that he used throughout his life.  He retired July 4, 2018, as assistant superintendent of Water Distribution after 30 years working for the City of Amarillo.

In July of 1997, he met the woman of his dreams, Shawn Adams.  They married on February 14, 1998.

Dwane loved his Harley motorcylces, hunting, and was starting to learn to play the guitar in his retirement.  He was a loving husband, father, and family man.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Sanchez.

He is survived by his wife, Shawna; parents Shirley and husband John Conway and Mike Hammonds of Amarillo; sons, Kris Hammonds and wife Ashley of Amarillo and Dakota Hammonds and wife Raylee of Canyon; a daughter, Hazel Hammonds of the home; brothers, Adam Hammonds and wife Leslie of Amarillo; Stony Short and wife Julie of Dallas; and Scotty Short and wife Sharon of Amarillo; a sister, Angie Kunkel of Amarillo; two grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other extended family.

  1. So very sorry to hear of his passing. I was a friend of his mom and dad. I babysat him some when he was an infant.

  5. I am so sorry for your loss. Prayers for all the family. I appreciated him keeping and eye out for my house after m husband passed last year. He always waved at me if he was outside. He and Dakota helped my husband and I several times. He will be missed.
