Nancy Gayle Reed

Nancy Gayle Reed, 76, of Guymon, OK passed from this earth to be with her Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at BSA Hospice of the Southwest.

She was born in Union City, TN to Wayne and Jean Reed. She later moved to Memphis, TN where she received her master’s degree from Memphis State University.

Nancy taught in the Florida and Mississippi school systems before moving to Guymon in 1974 where she spent the next 45 years in the Oklahoma School System.

Nancy was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Guymon where she taught Sunday School for 40 years, GA’s, and served on various committees, including the scholarship committee. She was also active in her community having served on the board of Panhandle Service for Children and worked diligently with Sister to Sister Jail Ministry.

Nancy is preceded in death by her father, Wayne Reed; mother, Jean Blanz; and her loving stepfather, Al Blanz.

Nancy is survived by a brother, Fred Blanz, of Port St. Lucie, FL; sisters, Kathy Mills, of Tallahassee, FL, Susie Shaffer, of Kingsport, TN and Amy Gandy, of Kingsport, TN.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020, in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church Guymon from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Oklahoma Baptist Children’s Home, 3800 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73112.

  2. Nancy was indeed one of a kind. I first knew her through the school system 35 years ago and all of our children respected her through their junior high tenure with her. And I especially enjoyed working closely with her for the past four years. She will be missed by many since she made an impression and impact on everyone she was around. I will miss her. As a strong woman of faith, it is a comfort to know she will never be in pain again and where she is spending eternity. Our prayers for all those that love her for strength and comfort!

  3. I’m so grateful for Nancy’s love for our family. She treated my kids like they were her own grandkids & made them feel so special. The Lord gave her many children on this earth! She was sassy, ornery, thoughtful & awesome! We will miss you greatly, Nancy❤️

  4. Nancy will be missed by so many. I am forever grateful to have known this exceptional lady! Her kindness, love and guidance was instrumental in helping my granddaughter adjust to a new move into Guymon’s Junior High some years ago. Nancy was indeed an answer to prayer!
    My prayers of comfort and peace reach out to her family, friends, and Rick & Barbara Bohlander during this difficult time.

  5. I was so saddened to hear that Nancy passed away. She and I became acquainted at the YMCA where we walked in their therapy pool. She was faithful and such an encouragement. My prayers are with her family as well as Mrs. Bohlander, as I know they were such good friends. Linda Wright

  6. A wonderful Lady and will be so missed by friends, Church and community. She taught both my children and they so respected her as a teacher and always loved her dry humor. She was a Great person. My heart goes out to the Bohlander’s her adopted family.

  8. I can only imagine the time Nancy is having in Heaven this very moment. She definitely is having a fabulous time ! I will surely miss her here on Earth, but we will have a reunion day. I look forward to that . Our family loved her bunches. She made such an impact on so very many of us. Her rewards are going to be great !

  9. Nancy was One-of-a-Kind! She and Barb helped me teach our 3 year-old deaf son, Kendall Ryan at our home. He loved them!

    Our sympathies are extended to Nancy’s family and the Bohlander family. We also know she will be missed by all who knew and loved her from First Baptist and Guymon Schools.

    We are sorry we can’t attend her memorial service. Carmen’s classmate from Texhoma lost her mother, and she planned earlier to attend Voisie Frittz’s service.

  10. Such an Awesome Lady. I will miss seeing her and getting that hug and an earful about life! She will be missed by many in our community! She will be cheering on her VOLUNTEERS from above! Prayers to the family!
