Neal B. Scott, 80, of Amarillo, passed away on November 27, 2022.  Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday, December 1, 2022, at the funeral home.  Funeral service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Boulevard.

Neal was born on December 8, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to Dorothy J. and Meyer H. Shapiro.

Neal started his career in the Midwest and quickly decided he needed to move to North Dakota or Amarillo to begin his career in commodities.  Fortunately for all of us, he chose Amarillo as his home.  Real estate became his passion and his very successful career spanned over 45 years.  He absolutely loved making deals while buying and trading.  If he wanted a property he would find a way to make it work.

Neal also had many interests outside of real estate, and he lived fun and enjoyable times to the fullest.  He traveled the world and visited numerous exotic locations.  He waited impatiently for an estate sale or an auction, always wanting to make the best deal.  Neal always prepared his game plan well in advance of the big day. Through the years, he established an amazing collection of antiques and art, which he proudly displayed at home.  He also loved road trips closer to home to find great restaurants and art galleries.

While not a native to the Panhandle, Neal made a lasting impact on this region and made it clear he loved the community.  He established the Dorothy J. Shapiro scholarship for teaching with the WT Foundation and was a member of the Old Main society.  Neal also served on the budget and finance committee at the Temple B’nai Israel Amarillo. He cherished the relationships of those that served with him.

There are so many people that were so special to Neal.  If you knew him, you knew you were special to him after an engaging conversation that always gave you a lift, a new idea, or a solution anytime it was needed.

Neal was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by Angie Hastie of the home; his daughter, Andrea Heiman and husband Scott of Chicago, IL; his daughter, Alisa Scott Fox and husband Andrew of Amarillo; his grandchildren, David Heiman, Samantha Heiman, and Nicholas Carducci.  Neal also loved and is survived by Angie’s daughter; Christi Ashley of Hereford and her children Riley and Tylar; and his longtime caregiver, Pam Nash.

  1. Neal without a doubt was a character! I’ve had the pleasure of knowing him over the past 11 years due to my work in the auction industry. Boy did he love an auction! Always wonderful to be around, nice, polite, but when he needed to tell you something tough he flat out told which I respect fully. I am saddened to hear the news of his passing.
