Norma West

Norma West, 93, of Amarillo, Texas went to Heaven on Saturday, September 30, 2023.

Private services are arranged by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors and will be officiated by Dr. Tim Marrow of Belton, TX.

Norma was born August 12, 1930 in Hollis, OK to Gladys and Francis M. Wagnon.  She was a 1948 graduate of Olustee High School in Olustee, OK. She made the decision to follow Christ when she was 20; she loved her Lord and served Him the rest of her life.  Norma worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Altus, OK and then in Borger, TX where she met the love of her life, James L. West, and they married on January 30, 1954. They were happily married for 63 years. Norma was a homemaker and wonderful Mom to her five children and later worked for Nichols Clinic in Plainview, TX.  Norma volunteered with the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens Classic Tournaments for many years, the American Cancer Society and the First Baptist Church of Plainview prison ministry teaching inmates how to read the Bible.  She was a member of First Baptist Church of Plainview for 43 years until she and James moved to Amarillo in 2016.  At the time of her death, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2017, her four siblings, son-in-law Gordon Benson and daughter-in-law Tracey West.

She is survived by her five children, Linda Slone (Keigm) of Coppell, TX; Beverly King (Gary) of San Antonio, TX; Brenda Augustine (Joe) of Amarillo, TX; Fanchon Hayes (Ben) of Wimberley, TX; Landon West of Stephenville, TX and stepson Jerry Ferrell (Deborah) of Pampa, TX; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  She cherished her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the light of her world.

The family suggests memorials be made to First Baptist Church Hospital Flower Ministry, 1208 S Tyler, Amarillo, TX  79101 or Wayland Baptist University Scholarship Fund, 1900 W 7
