Odis James, 74, of Amarillo, died Friday, November 13, 2020.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd.  Burial will be at 3:00 P.M. at Restlawn Cemetery in Altus, Ok.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Odis was born on March 7, 1946 in Altus, Ok. To Odis Sr. and Velma James.  He grew up in Altus and moved to Clovis.  While in Clovis, he and his father operated a body shop.  He later went to work for Santa Fe Railroad in 1968 and was transferred to Lubbock and Amarillo before retiring in 2009.  He was a member of the WSMSS and inducted into the Western Swing Hall of Fame in Sacramento, Ca.  He was a hero of Western Swing in Mineral Wells.

Odis married Annette Thompson on August 19, 1965 in Clovis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Shirley Patrick.

He is survived by his wife, Annette James of Amarillo; a son, Robbie James and wife Sabrina of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Zach, Abby, and Aaron; and a sister, Norma Thompson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Western Swing Music Society of the Southwest Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 916, Jacksboro, Texas 76458.

The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m., Monday, November 16, 2020, at the funeral home.

  2. Odie and Annette have been dear friends for many years. Hollie and I have played many shows and dances with Odie. There is not a better person that you would ever want to be around. He will so be missed. What a good man. Our live and prayers go to Annette and the family. Hollie and I were so lucky to call him our dear friend. Prayers to the family and RIP my dear friend. Thank you for our friendship

  3. To the entire James family… I was sad to hear that Odis had passed. He was a great guy & I just saw him a year ago June at the Altus High School Reunion. I’m keeping you all in my prayers. RIP Odis
