Opal Jane Mcdermitt
Opal Jane McDermitt, 88, of Amarillo, Texas passed away February 4, 2024.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 17, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church Chapel, 1100 S. Harrison St. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Opal Jane was born September 2, 1935, in Oklahoma City, OK to Robert and Helen Smith and married Carol McDermitt in 1959. Opal graduated from Oklahoma University in Norman, OK with a Bachelor of Music in 1959. She also taught music at John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City, OK. Opal took organ lessons at First Presbyterian Church, and she also enjoyed singing in Cantaberry Coral Society and at Graystone Presbyterian Church both in Oklahoma City, OK.
She is preceded in death by her children, Charley Miller McDermitt, Jim McDermitt, and Tom McDermitt; and grandson, Michael McDermitt.
Opal Jane is survived by a grandson, Christopher McDermitt; great-grandson, Jude McDermitt; and brother, Robert Smith and wife Babette.
