Patricia Irene Bowers

Patricia Irene Bowers, our loving mother, granny, and friend was called home to her Heavenly Father on December 30, 2022. She was 88 years old.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at Hillside Christian Church – Amarillo Northwest Campus, 600 Tascosa Road, with Stuart Smith and Chris Condit officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Patsy was born to Cecil “Daddy Cecil” and Essie “Mama Essie” Smith of Seymour, Texas on April 09, 1934. She was the middle of 5 children.

Pat met and married the love of her life, William Bowers in 1961. Together they raised seven children in Amarillo, Tx. Creating a life and home full of love and laughter while owning Bill’s Trim and Glass on 6th Street. Both individually but stronger together were inspirational examples of how to walk through this life, love, learn and always be generous and kind. After Bill’s death, Pat discovered a love of antiques and opened The Mustard Seed.

Patricia is known to most as “Granny”, an endearing name she embraced with such affection, care, and honor. Granny embodied unconditional love. The only requirement to her loving you was meeting you. There was not a friend, relative, caretaker, or child she didn’t love like her own. She was caring, gentle, affectionate, always giving a hug to anyone she met. To know her, was to know that you were prayed for, loved, and accepted. She didn’t know how to not offer her hand out to anyone who needed it and few ever saw her back because she turned it on no one.  She was tough but in the way of strength.  She gracefully survived so much in her life, and she knew her children had to be strong enough to do the same, so even to her great grandchildren she has been so much more than just a matriarch.  She lost her rock when she lost Bill, but she continued to live and love and say “Darlin’ I am so thankful for how much I have and had, my life has been so so full!”  Granny is our queen bee, our papa’s princess, our teacher of unconditional love, our sister, our mom, our Granny.

Of all her treasures here on Earth, she made sure everyone knew being a Granny was what she cherished the most. Her face would glow when she saw her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their phone calls, visit, or a note in the mail would bring her so much joy. The memories of Granny with each of her grandchildren are special and unique every time because she made them so.

Granny was blessed to be surrounded by her daughters living nearby the last few years and living with them when she needed them most. Her children loved and cared for her the way she taught them, and she took her first breath in heaven surrounded by them and with her sweet Sugar.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Essie Smith; husband, Bill Bowers; brother, Sam Smith; sister, Helen Brewer; sons-in-law, Ronny Howell and Eddy Norfleet; and her granddaughter, Whitney Bowers. It gives the family great comfort knowing she is at peace with the loved ones she’s missed so much.

Granny is survived by her seven loving children, daughters, Glynette Haaland and husband Phil, Cathy Schneiderjan, Gina Norfleet, and Kim Howell, and her 3 sons, Rod, Mark and wife Anita, and Brad and wife Susan Bowers; and her 2 sisters, Saundra Hoynacki and Kay Mickey. Granny will be missed dearly by 20 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren as well as many relatives and friends she held dear to her heart. And mostly by her special companion, Sugar.

A special thank you to the staff, nurses, and doctors who showed our Granny and our family such care during her final years.

To have known Granny for an instant was to love her forever. She loved her Lord, her family, Sugar, every friend and stranger, antiques, great cooking, anything leopard print and western movies just to name a few.  Love was what she was all about and all who knew her learned to love bigger from her.

So many loved her, and she will be dearly missed.  Just the mention of her name will always fill a room with smiling faces.

Donations can be made to The Mustard Seed, MNS, 4515 Cornell, Amarillo, TX. 79109. This is a women’s recovery center.
