Patricia Rue Overbey Mcelduff Blanton

Patricia Rue Overbey McElduff Blanton passed away August 23, 2022, after a long struggle with dementia.  She was born in 1929 in Paris, Arkansas to Harold Lee “Jack” Overbey and Rutilla Prue Rogers Overbey.

Services will be at 3:00 P.M., Monday, August 29, 2022, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

She graduated high school valedictorian in Joiner, Arkansas where she was All-State in flute and basketball and named “Best Girl” in the entire state. She was also named Top Junior College Student for the entire state, Best Athlete, Most Studious, and Miss Personality.  In 1948, she was crowned Peach Queen and selected as Arkansas Grand Worthy Advisor in the Order of Rainbow for Girls. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Henderson State Teachers College and Master of Science in Library Science from Arkansas Tech and was librarian at Travis Junior High School in Amarillo for over twenty years.

In 1983, she married Hugh Evans Blanton and always said that it was the best decision she ever made. Patricia was a faithful member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church since 1961.  She loved reading, gardening and watching sports on television.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Hugh Blanton, son William Albert McElduff, Jr., brother Rogers Overbey, and first husband Willam Albert McElduff.

Survivors include daughters Phyllis McElduff of Dumas, Texas, Mary Jean (Kenny) Larkan of Amarillo, Texas, Gail (Rob) Spurgeon of Dallas, Texas, and daughter-in-law Luann McElduff of Ocala, Florida. Granddaughters Amanda Lewis Stephens of Los Angeles, California, Kara Larkan Skinner of San Antonio, Texas, Natalie Lewis Uhl of Seattle, Washington, Kelly Larkan Coover of Tiburon, California, and Maddie McElduff of College Station, Texas.  Stepsons William Hugh (Linda) Blanton of Johnson City, Tennessee, Chuck (Peggy) Blanton and Jerry (Mary) Blanton of Amarillo, Texas. Step-grandchildren Bennett and Sara Blanton. Great-grandchildren Aidan, Sophie, Jude, Monroe, Duncan, Duke, and Piper. Sisters Betty Plugge and Norma Jean Bearden of Scranton, Arkansas.

Pat wanted everyone to remember her for her Christianity and her love for God.

Even though Pat’s memory faded in her final years, we will always cherish our fond memories of her.   In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to research at the Alzheimer’s Association through their website alz.org, or mail a check to P.O.
