Paul Douglas “Doug” Briggs

Paul Douglas “Doug” Briggs, 71, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on February 23, 2024.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, March 15, 2024, at Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington St., with Jim Shelburne, Senior Pastor of Washington Avenue Christian Church; and Jim McKee, Faithbuilders Bible Study Teacher at Hillside Christian Church officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Doug was born in Oakley, Kansas on March 10, 1952, to Patricia Lee (Murphey) and Charles Edward Briggs. He graduated from Tascosa High School in 1970 and attended West Texas A&M University. Doug married Mary Melinda “Mindy” Brewster in Amarillo, Texas on June 14, 1975.

Doug worked as an independent oil and gas landman for 40 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved swapping tall tales with his best friend and father-in-law, “Brew” Brewster. Doug was also quite a grill master and loved cooking outside for his family and friends. His last words to his wife Mindy were a reference to grilling a steak with Jesus in heaven. He was a Christian and served many years with gratitude in the Faithbuilders Class at Hillside Christian Church.

Doug is predeceased by his parents and a brother, Richard Briggs. Survivors include his wife, Mindy Briggs, of Amarillo, Texas; daughter Judy Lynch and husband Barry, of Amarillo; son Jon and wife Stephani Zegarra of Amarillo; grandchildren Thomas Lynch and Tayron Izquierdo; sister Cathy Ashford and husband Dan of Amarillo; sister Kelly Bankston and husband Warren of Kenner, Louisiana, and many beloved in-laws, out-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial in Doug’s honor to Faithbuilders Class, Hillside Christian Church, 6100 Soncy Road, Amarillo TX 79119; or to Washington Avenue Christian Church, 3800 S. Washington St., Amarillo, TX 79110, either for the Building Fund or Chi Alpha (Doug’s niece and nephew’s mission for U.S. and international college students).
