On April 19, 2022, Paula Montes Ortega, 88, of Amarillo, Texas, went to celebrate eternity with her dearest Lord and Savior, Jesus.

The family will receive visitors on Sunday, April 24, 2022, from 4:00-5:30 pm at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. A Memorial service will be on Monday, April 25, 2022, at 2:00 pm at Amarillo Para Cristo Church. Arrangements provided by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Paula was born in Santiago Cuautlalpan, Mexico on July 5, 1933, to Enrique and Lucia Montes. She married Ramon Galvan Ortega on January 20, 1959, in Juarez, Chihuahua, relocated to and made Amarillo, Texas her home. Paula was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She took great pride in becoming a U.S. citizen on September 27, 1972. After the loss of her husband in 1974, with a tenacious spirit and fierce dedication she committed her time and energy to her 5 sons and church family. Always willing to improve herself, she took charge of the family finances, learned English with the help of a local church, and broadened her nutritional understanding through the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program. Countless cherished memories were created at her dinner table.

Paula enjoyed sewing, gardening, music and reading her bible. She had a wonderful dry sense of humor and was always ready to share her passionate love for Jesus. Her love language was prayer. She was kind, compassionate, and generous. The light of Jesus shined bright in her, making her world—our world—a better place.

Paula was preceded in death by her husband Ramon G. Ortega. She is survived by her children, Henry & Stephanie Ortega, Paul & Debbie Ortega, Tomas & Penni Ortega, Daniel & Dalia Ortega, and David & Rosa Ortega; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
