Raul Jesse Resendes, 76, of Stratford, died Thursday, October 29, 2020.

A Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel in Amarillo, 2800 Paramount Blvd.  Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 5, 2020, at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Father Victor Hugo Andrade.  Burial will be at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Jesse was born on January 3, 1944, in Santa Anna, Texas to Armando and Santos Resendez.  He graduated from Abernathy High School.  He had worked as a USDA meat inspector for many years throughout the panhandle.  He had also worked as a correctional officer and owned Jesse’s Gun Shop in Stratford.  He had served as the CCD Youth director for many years and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.  He also was a prison minister and a musician at the church.  Jesse taught Bible classes and played music for the elderly.

He married Catalina Hernandez on March 1, 1987.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Raul Jesse Resendes Jr. and Raul Zacarias Resendes; and a brother, Roy Resendez.

He is survived by his wife, Catalina Resendes of Stratford; four daughters, Linda Hurtado of Seguin, Hope Resendes of Amarillo, Angie Carroll and husband Chad of Amarillo, Ivonne Garza and husband Cesar of Amarillo; four sons, David Resendes and wife Debbie of Colorado Springs, Ysidro Resendes of Las Vegas, Nv., Adam H. Gomez and wife Claudia of Dumas, Angel Resendes and wife Kayla of Amarillo; three sisters, Tina Van Veen and husband Dutch of Odessa, Delores Resendes of Lubbock, Sylvia Hurtado and husband David of West, Tx.; two brothers, Albert Resendes and wife Dezeeta of Lubbock, Victor Resendes of Stephenville; twenty grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren

  1. Our deepest sympathies to our beloved extended family; Jesse was a great cousin, he clearly made it his business to be there for people. He was used by God to be a blessing to us more than once. Love you.

  2. Chuy is what I grew up calling you. I loved you and your family as my own. You taught us how to love God. You were admired by many. You were wise, caring, respectful, truthful, and just amazing all around. The world has lost a great man. But heaven has reclaimed an amazing angel. Prayers for your family and God comforts them.

  8. Our condolences to the Resendes family. We are deeply saddened by Jesse’s passing and pray that the family is comforted by their knowledge of the Lord’s love and mercy.

  9. It was a pleasure to know Jesse , to be associated with him as a meat inspector for my parents business, and to coach with him in little league. It was an honor to coach and teach Jesse’s children. Jesse was always supportive. Jesse will be missed greatly. Jesse was a fine man. God Bless the Resendes family during this trying time.
