Raymond Edwin “Jack” Fyfe, Jr.
Amarillo, TX – Raymond Edwin Fyfe, Jr., 88, affectionately known to all his friends and acquaintances as “Jack”, passed away to be with his Heavenly Father on September 30, 2022.
Jack truly cherished everything about Amarillo, especially the people. Born on May 27, 1934, Jack hit the ground running and as his many, many, friends know, he never slowed down. His days as both a participant and a coach in the Kids Inc. system were cherished memories to him. But his athletic career did not stop there. Jack Fyfe was a crowned champion within many sporting arenas, fields, and organizations. As an adult, Jack loved playing competitive sports, but he loved the development of friendships even more. Until the late 1980’s you would find the names of the tennis double team of Jack Fyfe and Jack Little in the tennis section headlines of the Globe News almost weekly. And in his latter days, you’d find him on the golf course with his dear friends consistently shooting a score that was lower than his age.
Jack graduated from Amarillo High School in 1952 and West Texas University in 1958. He worked in the sales department of Texaco for twenty-three years. Following his days in oil & gas, he joined a partner and developed seven of Amarillo’s Subway Sandwich shops. After selling the Amarillo stores, he chose to spend the final years of his career as owner to the Subway shop in Canyon.
Jack was a member of the Palo Duro chapter of AMBUCs for over six decades, alongside his father for many of the years. Hundreds of friends made, and hundreds of pancakes flipped, he loved his time with this non-profit organization.
Jack is preceded in death by his daughter, Kimann, parents, Jack and Dorothy Fyfe, Sr., wife, Barbara, and his grandson, Trafton Gates Esler.
Living relatives include his sister, Julie Pozos of Oklahoma City, previous wife, Sara Stevens Fyfe of Austin, daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Scott Esler, son and daughter-in law, Trey and Cary Fyfe, all of Austin, and son and daughter-in-law, Taylor and Pam Fyfe, of Horseshoe Bay. Jack has four stepchildren through his marriage with the late Barbara Fyfe, Jon Mark and Robin Hinnant, Louessa and Brett Stroope of Amarillo, Pam and Jeff Snyder of Vail and Rick and Melissa Hinnant of Austin. Jack was also very close to his childhood friend’s widow, Judy Buckley, of San Antonio. Jack has 9 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He has eight step-grandchildren.
A service and reception for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2525 Wimberly, Amarillo, TX 79109. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
