Richard Wayne Brock
Richard Wayne Brock passed away at The Craig Senior Living Center in Amarillo, Texas on January 26, 2024. He was 90 years old. Richard was born February 21, 1933 in Vernon, Texas to Ruby Alice (Rhodes) and Luther Brock. He graduated from Borger High School and always considered Borger and the Texas panhandle home. After moving his family from Atlanta to Pampa to Houston to Tulsa, he took them home to his beloved panhandle and settled in Amarillo only to be uprooted to Houston again where he spent 25 years before once again returning to Amarillo to live out the rest of his life.
As a young man, Richard was a preacher of the gospel of Christ in Brookshire, Texas and Tucumcari, New Mexico. Most of his life though was spent as an electrical engineer for companies such as Bechtel, Enron and Compaq. He was also a real estate agent in Amarillo, Texas. Richard had an amazing mind to solve problems in unique ways. One of his lifelong hobbies, although never completely realized but brought him great joy, was to invent a piano that could be played in various modes. He was an avid genealogist, devoting much time to researching his family’s history in libraries, cemeteries and eventually online which fed his love of the new technologies that were developed during his lifetime.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Nelta Irene (McDonald) Brock, son, Brent Wayne Brock, grandson, David Scott Dow, parents, Luther and Ruby Brock, sister Wanda Faye Freeman and brothers, Charles William Brock and Larry Thomas Brock.
He is survived by three daughters: Alice Joanna Lafferty, Stacy Denise Brock and Diana Irene Dow. Twelve grandchildren: Ryan Montez, Nathan Montez, Evan Montez, Robin Montez, Matthew Dow, James Dow, Andrew Dow, Timothy Dow, Jonathan Dow, Benjamin Dow, Brandon Brock and Breanna Brock. Twenty great grandchildren: Everlee, Larkyn, Beckett, Titus, Trace, Arya, Bella, Clay, Ezra, Josiah, Amos, Levi, Abel, Lincoln, Amelia, Zoey, Joshua, Aaliyah, Brendon and Wyatt. Sisters-in-law: Doris Brock and Carol Brock.
A private graveside service will be held later at the Eastview Memorial Park in Vernon, Texas.
