On Monday, July 26, 2021, Rickey Paul Smith, passed away at age 65.

Rickey was born on December 3rd, 1955 to William and Jeanene Smith. He was raised in Dumas, Texas along with his two siblings. Although he was Texan by birth, his heart was in the mountains. He was an outdoorsman, spending most of his free time hunting, fishing and camping. He loved to work with his hands, and like his father, he was a skilled carpenter. Rickey had a passion for adventure and a knack for fixing. When he was not keeping up his green thumb, he found fulfillment in exploring. Rickey was able to spot a true diamond in the rough. He will be missed by his family and many friends.

Rickey was preceded in death by his father, William Earl Smith.

He is survived by his mother, Ora Jeanene Smith of Dumas, Texas, his brother, Danny Smith and wife Cindy of Oklahoma, his sister Sonia Sawyer and husband Noel of Woodland Park, Colorado, his 2 sons, Chad Smith and wife Angela of Canyon, Texas, and Caleb Smith and wife Tomi of Amarillo, Texas, his daughter, Rebekah Haskins and husband James of Amarillo, Texas, his 5 grandchildren, Chloe Posada and husband Michael, Tristian Smith, John Earl Smith, Emily Kay Smith, and Waylon Haskins along with several cousins, nieces, and a nephew.

A Memorial service will be held on July 31, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Boxwell Brothers Funeral Chapel in Dumas, Texas.

  1. I remember the first house that Jughead, Marlin, Hudiberg and myself rented together in Dumas. Wow, what a crazy time we had there with a lot of Dumas buddies! We lost track of Rickey years ago but will always remember him and the other friends we all have lost over the years. Rest In Peace Rickey and God be with your family!

  2. So sorry for your loss …praywrs for by your family ..Ricky was always a happy smiling guys. He always had a nice ride. .We all grew up together on spruce st Maddox st and streets around all around. All of us kids playing football ,riding bikes,with all the kids around we are family. Lots of memories

  3. My condolences to Rickey’s family. Rickey was a part of the huge number of children that called Spruce Street home. We shared many fun times there. Rickey will always have a place in our hearts. Praying for all his family and friends.

  4. Very sad in the loss of your loved one Ricky. He was always friendly towards me. Our families have known each other for many years and it will leave a empty spot in our hearts where he used to be. May he rest peacefully.
