Robert Alan Murphey, 50, of Amarillo, Texas passed away Friday, September 30, 2022.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 7, 2022, at the chapel of Hillside Christian Church located at 6100 S. Soncy Road.  Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in York, Nebraska, at a date yet to be determined.

Alan was born March 6, 1972, in York, Nebraska to Clarence Robert and Sherron Elaine (Cooper) Murphey.  Alan graduated from York High School in 1990.  While in high school he joined the Volunteer Fire Department which sparked his interest in health care.  Following graduation, he attended University of Nebraska where he received a Bachelor of Nursing degree and volunteered with the American Red Cross as a medic.  Alan further continued his education at Union College where he received his Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies degree.  For 12 years, he enjoyed his career as a PA and Interventional Pain Management Specialist at Acute & Chronic Pain and Spine Center under supervision of his dear friend and mentor, Dr. B.J. Daneshfar.  He loved spending day after day with his work family joking around with his co-workers and caring for his patients.  No doubt he will be deeply missed.  One of Alan’s favorite adventures was flying shotgun with his dad in the family’s Cessna 172.  As a kid, he spent many summers flying to work sites to assist his dad with the family business.  He was a beloved son to his parents and a fun little brother to his sister.  Alan loved to study the Bible and spent many hours reading Scripture and learning about Jewish history.  It was not uncommon for Alan to share his faith or to give bibles, devotional books, and encouragement to anyone struggling or seeking God.  Alan attended Hillside Christian Church and was a member of a small group that will greatly miss him.  Alan loved being outdoors and enjoyed taking trips to the mountains with his wife, kids, and friends.  He was a loving and generous husband and stepdad.  He would routinely go out of his way to provide for their needs and to make them feel loved and secure.  He will be forever loved and missed.

Alan is survived by his wife, Kristi Murphey,

and stepchildren, Caitlin Rhodes and Cooper Rhodes all of Amarillo, TX.; his parents, Bob and Sherri Murphey of York, NE; his sister, Kelly MacMillan and husband Danny, and nephews, Gavin MacMillan and Broden MacMillan all of Omaha, NE; niece Megan Matulka and husband, Joe, of Bellevue, NE; Grandma June Cooper of York, NE;  uncle Terry and wife Mary Ann Cooper of Littleton, CO; cousins Sean Cooper and wife Kristin and Todd Cooper and wife, Samantha, and children all of Littleton, CO.  Alan was preceded in death by his beloved nephew, Nicholas Peters.

Alan had a generous heart and was always eager to take care of those around him.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of his favorite ministries: Samaritan’s Purse, Downtown Women’s Center of Amarillo, or Amarillo Children’s Home.

Alan was one of the kindest individuals I have known. During the years he helped me with numerous health issues. More than that was his influence on my Christianity. During each appointment he shared scripture with me, and I believe I am closer to The Lord having known Alan. May he walk the streets of gold. He is greatly missed.

  6. Alan was an amazing PA, nurse, and friend. He always made me and my significant other feel like we were valued, accepted, and loved when I would see him at the pain clinic. He was always so generous with his time. He always had me trying alternative therapies along with my medications to help treat my RA. He’s seen me through 5 kidney stones, a grapefruit sized cyst, and two foot surgeries, on top of my otherwise routine pain in my joints. I can’t speak anywhere nearly as high as he deserves for his basic human decency. My heart goes with all of his family. Blessings to you all.
