Robert (Bob) Leonard Herich, 83, of Amarillo, Texas was called home by his loving Savior on Friday, July 15, 2022.

Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, at 3:00 P.M., at First Baptist Church with Dr. Howard Batson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Bob was reared in the suburbs of Chicago as the youngest of four children and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and proudly identified himself as a Marine throughout his lifetime. His large personality energized any room he entered. He was strong and stubborn, but freely allowed himself to be the target of much teasing. Laughter followed wherever he went. His grandchildren knew that it was always the right time for ice cream.

With a natural gift for understanding all things mechanical, Bob spent his professional years with a company that develops biomechanical testing equipment. However, his best service years came after his retirement. As a child of Slovakian immigrants, Bob took great pride and joy working with the Burmese community through the First Baptist Church in Amarillo. Many became like members of his extended family. Through that service, Bob’s faith deepened and was reflected in the testimony he shared.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Marie Herich; his sister and brother-in-law, Violet (Herich) and Pete Winandy; and his brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Laurel Herich.

He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Rebecca (Snodgrass) Herich, his brother, Emil Herich, and his children: Bob and Deb Herich, Phil and Kathy Herich, and Karl and Deb (Herich) Ondersma. He is also survived by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jared and Kristen (Ella, Emma, Knightly) Herich, Carlie and Matt (Lucy, Sloane) Meyer, Lauren and Jordan (Brianne) Thomas, Mikayla and Victor Blomberg; Kirsten Herich, Ashley and Israel Castellanos, Hunter and Anna Herich, and Kip and Sarah Herich; Audrey Ondersma,  Leah Ondersma and Ike Ondersma, his sister-in-law, Ann Jenkins of Amarillo, his brother-in-law Roy Snodgrass and wife Joan of Austin TX, niece Patty Masse and husband Vince of Arlington Heights, Illinois and many other loving nieces and nephews, and his very sweet cat, Chancellor.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the International Department of First Baptist Church.
