Ronda Joy Jones

Ronda Joy Jones, 43, of Canyon, TX passed away peacefully February 17, 2024 surrounded by the love of her family.

Memorial Services to celebrate Ronda’s life will be held Tuesday February 27th, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Hillside Christian Church West Campus, 6100 South Soncy Rd. Amarillo, TX.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Ronda was born February 26, 1980 in Alamogordo, New Mexico to Robin Haymes and Richard Harris. Ronda graduated from Alamogordo High School in 1998.  She went on to attend Western New Mexico University where she played golf and studied Zoology. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science followed by a Master’s degree in Agriculture Education at New Mexico State University.  Ronda married Kelly Jones August 11, 2007. Together they built a wonderful life and have two beautiful children, Raley and Kelton Jones who have been Ronda’s pride and joy.

Ronda was a vivacious educator.  From 2005-2007 she taught Biology, Animal Science, Leadership, Welding, Wildlife Management and loved her role as FFA advisor at Alamogordo High School.  She moved to Roswell, New Mexico in 2007 and taught Biology, Horticulture, shop classes, and coached girls golf at Goddard High School.  Upon moving to Texas in 2011 she taught Biology and Animal Science at Amarillo Area Center for Advanced Learning.

She transitioned into the insurance world working as an AFLAC agent in 2015. She quickly became an ambassador for the AFLAC company and built a successful business of her own.  She received associate promotions, several market and national retreats, and many other accolades in her service with AFLAC. In her humble nature, she assisted countless customers who quickly became friends. She was a dependable and valuable volunteer and proud sponsor of many organizations including the Randall County JR Livestock Association, Randall County 4H, Top of Texas Youth Sports League, Canyon FFA, Canyon ISD Athletics and the Junior League of Amarillo.  She was steadfast in her Christian faith and served with sincere dedication as a member of Hillside Christian Church in Canyon Texas.

September 16, 2014 Ronda and Kelly received the news no one wants to receive, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma.  From that moment Ronda fought in a way that can only be described as GRIT. Her firmness of mind and spirit brought her out of moments that would ordinarily break a giant. By the grace of God, in this temporary place we call home, cancer does not win.  Instead it has encouraged moments of reflection and discussion of real life issues.  It has helped to clearly recognize and hold steadfast in God’s promise of love for us all.  It has allowed a deep appreciation of moments and memories experienced with friends and loved ones.

Ronda loved BIG and spent a lot of time surrounded by her friends and family.  She enjoyed watching her children excel in sporting and stock show events. She was strong, determined, and goal driven.  She never turned down a good time or a trip, and in doing so has made lasting memories with so many friends and loved ones who cherish her deeply.  Ronda will be remembered by her way of giving unconditional love and sound advice. She was a fighter through and through and never took no for an answer.  She astonished friends, family members and healthcare providers over and over again by her determination to live her life and live it well. Her legacy will live on in memories of the love and laughter she shared with her family and friends.  She will be missed dearly by many.

Ronda was preceded in death by her father Richard “Beaver” Harris; and her grandparents Tiny and Nancy Harris, John Rentschler, Colonel Bob and Joyce Jondahl.

Ronda is survived by her husband Kelly Jones, her daughter Raley Jones, her son Kelton Jones; mother Robin “Birdie” Haymes and husband Michael; stepfather Judson Dodd; Mother-in-law Jill and Tom Swagerty; father-law Michael “Country” Jones; brother Richard Harris and wife Christina; brother Ryan Harris and wife Destiny; sister Marissa Ruiz; sister Tammy Harris;  sister-in-law Micah Jones; brother-in-law Josh Jones and wife Carmen; 4 Nieces; 6 Nephews; and many close friends she lovingly called her tribe.
