Ronnie Ross Ray, 68, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on July 4, 2023.

Memorial services will be at 2 P.M., Saturday, July 8, 2023, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Ronnie was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Ruby Gossage Rogers. He graduated from Bonner SpringsHigh School in Bonner Springs, Kansas. Go Chiefs! But he did love the Dallas Cowboys.

Ronnie married Jayra McGaughy on September 18, 1987, in Amarillo, Texas, at Jayra’s parents’ home, with his grandmother officiating. Ronnie fiercely loved his family.

Ronnie was a very accomplished musician and was gifted at playing the guitar. In the 1980s, he joined the Amarillo band, Krakt, alongside his friend, local drummer Scott Nall. The band played numerous gigs, including opening for legendary guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan.  

Ronnie never met a stranger, was a good listener, and was not judgmental. He was patient, kind, smart, intuitive, and extremely artistic and creative. Ronnie loved the Lord and knew he would be welcomed home by Jesus.

Ronnie will be deeply missed and forever loved by his family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Gossage Rogers; brother, Jerry Ray; sister, Tonya Rose Oldham; and father-in-law, Bob McGaughy.

Survivors include his wife, Jayra Ray, of Amarillo, Texas; daughters, Shayra Danielle Ray and husband Michael Dumas, of Bedford, Texas, and ShonnieJe’taime Ray and husband, Adam Robinson, of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren, Mathen Kuhn, of Amarillo, Texas, and Addison Ray, of Amarillo, Texas; siblings, Carolyn Deal and husband Carl, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Tony Rogers, of Donna, Texas; stepfather, Carroll Rogers, of Donna, Texas; mother-in-law, Jaton McGaughy, of Amarillo, Texas; sisters-in-law, Kim Hull and husband Gaylon, of Lewisville, Texas, and Karen Welch and husband Kevin, of Amarillo, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
