Rosita “Rosie” Ornelas, 75, of Amarillo, TX died Tuesday, September 14, 2021.

Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd.  Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 20, 2021, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.  The family asks that everyone wear a mask to the services.

Rosie was born March 25, 1946, in Amarillo, TX to Nazario and Ascencion Maestas.

She married Arturo “Art” Ornelas on November 12, 1966, in Amarillo.

Rosie was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was a very devoted Catholic. Rosie was an amazing mother, her commitment to her four children never wavered. She was also so proud of all her grandchildren’s accomplishments. Her children and grandchildren were a part of her everyday life whether it be going to a game, walking in the mornings, or those long phone conversations. Rosie loved cooking for her family, caring for her plants and flowers, going to the casinos, and traveling with Art.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and one great-grandchild.

Survivors include her husband, Arturo “Art” Ornelas, of Amarillo, TX; two sons, Stephen Ornelas, and Thomas Ornelas and wife Vanessa, all of Amarillo, TX; two daughters, Kathy Ornelas, and Teresa Soria and husband Michael, all of Amarillo, TX; a sister, Nellie Hernandez and husband Alfredo, of Tulia, TX; eleven grandchildren, Vanessa, Jonathan, Drew, Raela, Jammie, Jackie, Christian, Justin, Jaelin, Savanna, and Sidney; and six great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be available on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from Noon – 5:00 P.M., and Sunday, September 19, 2021, from Noon – 6:00 P.M., at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

The world lost a wonderful lady that I didn’t get to spend years getting to know but the few times I was blessed to spend time with Rosie definitely left a special place on my heart for this beautiful woman!
