  1. I have been thinking about Roxie’s passing, and about Phil and their family, to whom I want to say that I am so very sorry for your loss of wife, mother, grandmother. I have adored Roxie since Crockett Junior High, where we began a friendship that lasted through high school. Roxie was beautiful in every sense of the word, and one of the kindest people God ever made. I hope that Roxie’s children and grandchildren know that she was beloved by everyone who knew her. (And, my best to Belmar Buddy Phil.)

  2. Phil – i found out about Roxie as I asked a question on an Amarillo Facebook page, “Did anyone know or remember a couple that appeared as dance contestants on Dick Clark?” An answer with paper clipping showed it was Roxie and another young man. Some commented Roxie had passed. It broke my heart. Phil, you were a very big influence on me in so many ways to copy someone if you wanted to be a complete person. I know Roxie made you even more level. I flew at high levels at Exxon (30 years) and never forgot you or Roxie. You and Roxie will always be my heroes and in my heart. My God continue to circle you with His angels and your family to get through this loss. All the best – Gary Findley (Fort Worth)

  3. Phil, I am so sorry to hear the news of Roxie. While it has been decades since I have seen either of you, your smiles and personality are still etched in my memory. May God continue to bless you and comfort you in your time of loss. My prayers are with you.

  5. Phil, my heart broke for you and your family, when I learned of Roxie’s passing. Having lost my husband three months ago, I understand the pain of losing a soul mate. No matter how long our time with them, it would never be long enough. The entire Schantz family was precious to the Spurgeon family. D’Ann was a classmate of my sister; Roxie and I were classmates, reconnecting later as we shared the pain of losing our big sisters too soon; and Marty and my mother were dear friends throughout their years at Crockett Junior High, and into retirement. Our lives were richer for knowing all of them. They were there to welcome Roxie home, though it leaves a void in your home and so many lives. May our prayers and love help heal your heart, and bring comfort in these difficult days.

  6. Thank you all for such heart touching comments. Beside Roxie’s physical beauty I remember being attracted to her because of her tender loving heart. When we were at David Crockett Jr. High she was so caring and attentive to a boy named Mark Pyeatt who was totally incapacitated suffering with MS. She took the time to visit him in the hospital before he died. That spoke volumes about her character and made me love her all the more.
Blessings, Phil, Philip, Jim and Kelsey

  9. Dear Phil,
My heart is broken for you and your family. Roxie was that rare lady who, genuinely, was as beautiful inside as she was out. Her faith shone like a light through her even when we were just children. She was a lady of elegance and grace and will be sorely missed.
I know she is with her Schantz family being surrounded with His light. I know, too, your grief must be horrific.
My mom often said, “we are not promised an easy journey, only a safe landing”. I know Roxie is safe in His arms.
Please be assured you will be in my heart and prayers.

    1. Dear Cynthia,
Thanks for your kind words and for your prayers. Yes I know she is rejoicing in heaven with all those who have gone before her. I know before she passed she was looking for her savior Jesus. One of the notes I found next to her chair is now posted on the fridge, Titus 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of the great God and our savior Jesus Christ.
Good to hear from you. Phil and family

    1. Janie,
Thanks for you kind comments. Yesterday I was going through her memorabilia and I found her Crockett cheerleader jacket and all her cheerleader photos including your photo. I had a secret crush on Roxie back in junior high but it was not until seniors at Tascosa that I convinced her to go out with me. She blessed my life in innumerable ways most importantly in leading me to faith in Jesus Christ.
We appreciate those prayers, Phil, Philip, Jim and Kelsey

I am so pleased to see your post. Thanks so much for your wonderful comments. My precious Roxie was patient with me for so many years and was instrumental in my coming to faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I know Roxie thought the world of her birthday club girls. I am so happy she was able to develop lasting memories and enjoy your friendship. I know for a fact she is in a better place, at the same time I am so sad she will miss those six beautiful grandchildren she leaves behind. I already miss her so much. Thanks so much for those prayers, I need them. God bless you and your beautiful family.
I have photos to prove that statement.
