Russell Anderson Duncan of Amarillo, Texas was born June 15, 1969 and went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2022. Russ grew up in Gainesville, Texas where he excelled in all sports and academics.  He graduated from The University of Oklahoma in 1991 with a BA in Business where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and continued to be an avid Sooner fan.  Russ had a long and successful career in the automotive business, and is the owner of Caprock Credit and Auto Sales & Finance in Amarillo, Texas. He was a giant slayer.  After being diagnosed with cancer seven years ago, Russ defied all odds and lived his life with strength and perseverance for his family and loved ones.

He leaves behind a faithful wife of 25 years, Savannah “Banna” Duncan. His best friend and love in life and the mother of his three outstanding children; Maxey Love Duncan, Margaret Elise “Ellie” Duncan and Garner Anderson Duncan. They were all the fuel to his fire and an endless well of pride, comfort, hope and joy.

Russ touched many hearts. Always kind, cheerful and selfless in his gift of being able to lift up others.  He was a genuine inspiration and would effortlessly set his own struggles aside and unselfishly make the focus about others. Russ was always a wonderful mentor to those struggling with their own health issues offering advice and encouragement. He loved his family and friends beyond measure and was loved back just as big.

Preceded in death by his father, Robert Russell Duncan, and his father-in-law, Hugh Maxey Dodson. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Firmin Duncan, brother Robert Duncan, his wife Virginia Nell Duncan, and his nephews Russell, Blake, Mitchell and Paul Duncan.  Mother-in-law, Becky Garner Dodson, sister-in-law Carey Garner Dodson, and countless family members, friends and Caprock/ASF family.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who tirelessly cared for for Russ. Notably, Dr. Mike Clark, Dr. Leonardo Ferraro, Dr. Alan Keister, Dr. Ramona Dadu, Dr. Jenks Currie, and Dr. Chance Irwin.

Services to be held at Llano Cemetery on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 1:00 PM at 2900 Hayes Street, Amarillo, Texas. The family requests guests wear blue to honor Russ. Honorary pallbearers: Daniel Bradley, Colby Flaming, Jenks Currie, Mike Clark, Benson Latham, Reese Beddingfield, Alex O’Brien, Lee Bort, Shannon Taylor, David Clement and Bob Brousseau. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be sent to The Russ Duncan Honorary Fund at St. Andrews Episcopal School 1515 South Georgia Amarillo, Texas 79102. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

  1. Russ was a really good athlete. We played together on the ATO intramural basketball team. We were good! He was a much better person!! Always smiling and friendly. This is a huge loss for his people & community. I don’t know his children but they need to know he was a big ole stud!! I’m heartbroken for his brother too. Back in the day they were the twin towers! Rest In Peace my friend. We will look forward to seeing him on the other side.

  3. Losing Russ has left a big hole in my heart! Everyone became a better person for having such a wonderful friend. I will truly miss him.

  4. Russ, you have been an inspiration and extremely helpful person to people looking to achieve what you have in business and in life. I thank god for the short time we got to hang out and know each other. You were always cheerful and willing to extend your hand out to anyone in our group and also provide feedback that was beneficial to all.

  5. Our family was so blessed to have crossed paths with you Russ and your sweet little family. . You made this world a better place. You truly was a selfless person who went out of your way to lend an ear and a kind word. Your infectious smile lit up the room. You may be gone from our sights, but you will never be forgotten. Your friendship transcends death.   9. Prayers for your family and the legacy you left behind. You never failed to say hello. We will never forget the kindness you showed our son, especially when it came to basketball. There was a year you coached the Kid’s Inc. team. I’ll never forget the one outstanding , unusual game that will be in my heart forever. You gave our son the most infectious smile and hug ever,. He was challenged and inspired that one night. Victory in Jesus. You fought the good fight!

  11. Russ was such an inspiration to EVERYONE he came across. His mold was broken when he passed on. His vessel just became so big that our Lord needed him beside him to inspire all that are in heaven. Prayers to the entire family for peace and contentment.
