Ruth E. Newberry, 80, of Amarillo, TX died January 16, 2021.

Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Llano Cemetery with Damon Akins officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Ruth was born December 19, 1940, in Wahnhausen-Kassel, Germany, during World War II to Heinrich and Erna Bein.  She lived through the Holocaust and came to the United States when she was 19.

She married James Newberry, who was part of the Mormon Church, on June 5, 1972, in Marietta, FL.  They established their home in Fort Rucker, AL and moved to Amarillo and resided in Highland Park ever since.  In 1995, Ruth became a US Citizen.

Ruth was someone who will always be remembered as having an open home where you could always get a meal.  She loved to cook and would cook for an army.  Her family was her most prized possession, especially her grandchildren.  Ruth had a zest for life that was only matched by her outgoing personality.

Survivors include her husband, James Newberry, of Amarillo, TX; two sons, James Newberry II and wife Kari, of Amarillo, TX, and Peter Hattrick, of Everett, WA; a daughter, Petra Allen and husband Glenn, of Capitan, NM; grandchildren, Emily Newberry, James Newberry III, both of Amarillo, TX, Shannon Huck, and husband Daniel, Dennis Hattrick, and Danielle Hattrick, all of Everett, WA, Kevin Hart and wife Brittnie, of Lubbock, TX, and Brittany Pinkous and husband Michael, of Stearns, KY; and nine great-grandchildren.

  1. So sad to see this, I have always been thankful for the time Ruth cared for my boys when we lived at Highland Park. Prayers and love extended to all.
