Sammy Lee Rigdon 5/20/1951 – 10/27/2022

On Thursday, October 27, 2022, Sammy Lee Rigdon, Christian, loving husband, and father of two, passed away at age seventy-one after a valiant battle with Mesothelioma.

Sam was born on May 20, 1951, to Thomas Richardson Rigdon and Nellie Fay

(Busby) Rigdon in Amarillo Texas and was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Caprock High School in 1969 and luckily asked his classmate Debbie Lookingbill to go to Senior Prom. They fell in love and married in 1970. Sam became a building contractor learning the art of carpentry as a young man following in his father’s footsteps. He worked for Wiley Hicks, Page & Wirtz, Reid & Gary Strickland, and in 1975 formed his own company. Leaving his footprint all over the Amarillo area remodeling and building custom homes, Sam Rigdon Construction Company will always be remembered for quality construction and expert craftsmanship.

Sam was best known for his quick-witted humor, dependability, and love for his family. When he wasn’t working, Sam could be found fishing, camping, or showing off his grilling skills. As a person of faith, he lived a life serving others. Always involved in church and volunteer work, Sam’s legacy will be remembered long after his death.

He is preceded in death by his father T.R. Rigdon and his mother Nellie, along with his sister Fay Elrod, sister-in-law Mary Rigdon, and sister-in-law Audrey Rigdon.

Sam is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Debbie, daughter Carrie Hill and husband Ted of Dallas, and daughter Anna Rigdon of Fort Worth.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 10 a.m. at Washington Avenue Christian Church.
