Sandra Beth Woods Brown, 69, passed away from this earth on September 14, 2022 and ran into the arms of Jesus.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 19, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Burial will follow at Boys Ranch Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Sandra was born on February 3, 1953, in Canyon, TX to Benny and Jerry Woods.  As a young child she lived in Umbarger, TX and moved to Canyon, TX with her parents and younger brother, Randy when she was in elementary school.  She attended school in Canyon and graduated from Canyon High School in 1971.

In the summer of 1972, Sandy, as she was kno

wn to her family and friends, worked at Ceta Canyon Methodist Church Camp.  While working there she met and fell in love with Donnie Brown.  She told her friends after their first meeting that Donnie was the man she was going to marry.  They were married on July 14, 1973, at the First United Methodist Church in Canyon and celebrated forty-nine years of marriage this past July.

They lived in Amarillo, TX where she worked at Northwest Texas Hospital and High Plains Baptist Hospital in physical therapy.  They were blessed with a daughter, Brianna, in 1977, and a son, Wesley, in 1981.  Wesley was born with health issues that caused Sandy to quit working shortly after his birth.

In 1982, Donnie and Sandy moved their little family to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch to become house parents.  During their time at Boys Ranch, Sandy not only cared for her two children, but became the mother to countless boys.  She also worked at the Boys Ranch day care, laundry, and dining hall.  Sandy loved each and every one of the boys like they were her own.

In 1991, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.  Because of the MS, she had to quit working outside the home.  Although the MS was hard on her, she did not let it define her.  She used to tell people that she had MS but MS didn’t have her.

Sandy was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019.  She faced it with the same determination she did the MS.  She was stubborn as the day is long and was determined to not let anything stop her.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, her son, and multiple other family members.  Oh, what a reunion they had in Heaven.

Left to celebrate her life is her husband, Donnie, of the home; her daughter, Brianna Smith, son-in-law, David, and their children, Hadley and Ryan; her son’s children, Colton and Greyson, and their mother, Tiffany Cochran Brown; a brother, Randy Woods and wife Carolyn; her brother and sister-in-law, Wendell and Susan Brown; brother-in-law Jerry Brown; an abundance of nieces, nephews, and cousins; two special friends Mel and Judy Jones; and a special bonus daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Drummond-Spinhirne.

Donations in Sandy’s memory can be made to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2022, at the funeral home.

  1. Grew up with Sandy and Randy. Our parents were friends and attended First Methodist together. She was always smiling, competitive, caring and fun. We lost contact somewhere along the way of life. I reconnected with her mom at Palo Duro Village, where my dad moved and lived for a couple of years.
Reading about all her accomplishments I see she stayed strong with her competitive nature not letting her give into adversities.
Prayers to you her family for comfort and peace.
