Sharon Kay Gukeisen Jones, 78, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on April 6, 2023.

Private family services will be held in Platte, South Dakota, date to be determined.

Sharon was born in Platte, South Dakota on November 8, 1944, to Lillian and Andrew Gukeisen with brothers Norman, Gene, and Richard Gukeisen. Graduated as a Medical Technologist from the College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota,

and worked as an X-Ray Technician for 20 years, in Bellevue, Washington. There she met and married her husband of 51 years, James Jones.

Upon retirement, they moved to Amarillo, Texas, the childhood home of James, where they spent the next 26 years.

Sharon volunteered at Amarillo Senior Citizens Association (25 years), and enjoyed playing bingo and cards with the fellow seniors.

She also volunteered with the Amarillo Police Department, where she worked as handicap patrol officer and supervisor (18 years).

She enjoyed RV’ing and traveling around the US with her husband.

Having cruised to various places on 10 different occasions and had a cruise scheduled for Greenland before her death

She is survived by husband James Jones and children James Morris and

Thomas Jones.

  3. James and family, I am so sorry to learn of the death of your Sweet Wife and Mother. I had a lot of interaction with Sharon at the Amarillo Senior Center. She will be greatly missed.

  5. Sharon will be truly missed by all! She had a loving heart and constantly thought of pleasing others. Her and James volunteered a lot of their time at the Amarillo Police Department as coordinators of the Handicap Parking Patrol. God be with James and all her family.
