Shirley Ann Wallick, age 74, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on April 28, 2022. Shirley was born on August 4, 1947, the eldest of four daughters born to Luther and Ina Lou Stephens.

A memorial service will be held for family and friends at Pinnacle Community Church at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2022. A community potluck will follow.

Shirley loved traveling the world with her husband Glenn Allan Wallick. Together for 53 years, they visited many countries in Europe, Australia, Asia, and Africa.

Shirley had a long career as a librarian which concluded with her retirement in May of 2011 from San Jacinto Elementary School. She is survived by a love of books and reading she passed on to many children, including her own.

A lifelong seamstress, she became an accomplished quilter after retiring, even teaching quilting in Amarillo.. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Shirley created over 1,000 face masks that she donated to support native and tribal peoples. She was in constant service to others.

An avid Scouter, in 1995 Shirley was presented the Silver Beaver Award, which is bestowed upon only those who have given continued and unselfish service. She served in many voluntary leadership roles as her children moved through the Cub Scouts and then Boy Scouts programs, but she continued to be an active and accomplished Scouter in her own right, working as Wood Badge assistant director for many years as well as being a staff member at Philmont Scout Ranch.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Glenda Aldridge. She is survived by her husband Glenn and sisters Marylin Elwood of Naples, Florida, and Cathie Godwin of Athens, Texas, sons Jeffrey Wallick and wife Amanda of Amarillo, and Scott Wallick and wife Binita of Dix Hills, New York, and her beloved grandchildren Hayley and Archer Wallick.

  1. I just learned of Shirley’s death. My family and I send our condoldences and have you in our prayers. She was a great lady. Our kids went to school together and served in cub scouts together.
    She was always serving others.

  2. What an amazing and inspirational lady. When God made Shelley he broke the mold.
    I was fortunate enough to work with Shirley in the Boy Scouts for a decade or so. I can still hear her voice and see her smile. I always knew if a program was to be a success Shirley’s involvement was a guarantee.
    Her work ethic was that of love for her fellow human beings. Nothing was too hard or too much.

    Many lives as well as mine were richer because of Shirley. I guess God has an important mission where success is a must is why he called her home.

    She made the world a better place.

    My condolences go out the her family who had to share her with so many. I know how you must feel an emptiness, but I also know how rich your lives are because of her. As time goes by the sadness will fade, and you will grow to be better and stronger just as she wants for you.

  5. Shirley was a wonderful person and a wonder to watch. She graciously took on many challenges when other were reluctant. Her infectious optimism made her a joy to work with. We watched her complete many difficult chores with a smile. Shirley will be missed by many people whose lives where better because they called Shirley a friend. She inspired us.

  6. Shirley was one of the many outstanding Teacher\ Librarians I was privileged to worked with during my career with Amarillo ISD! She was always on top of the latest developments in technology so that she could impart this knowledge to her teachers and students. Also, she was funny, oh, so very funny!
    She was an inspiration to me !

  8. I am in shock to hear of Shirley’s passing. She was a joy to work with when our boys were in Scouting. The mold is broken and she will be missed. Mary and I have you Glenn, Jeff, and Scott in our prayers. May her soul Rest In Peace.

  11. Shirley was a librarian/teacher friend at San Jacinto. I loved working with her! Praying comforting and peaceful blessings for her family.

  12. The Wallicks and my Wife and I belonged to the Antique Automobile Club of Amarillo. At our first National AACA Tour here in Amarillo, Shirley produced a power point presentation that was used at the closing banquet. I was Chairman of this tour and I was so proud of Shirley and her power point presentation that I could have just busted with pride. It was so well done that it was the highlight of the tour.
