Stephanie Kordas

On January 31, 2023, Stephanie Martel Yunker Kordas, age 80, of Amarillo, TX passed away.

Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 11, 2023, at St. Mary’s Cathedral. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Stephanie was born on August 7, 1942, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to Aileen and John Yunker. During her early childhood years her family moved to Gary, Indiana. In 1951 they moved to Amarillo where she attended school at Bivins Elementary, Austin Jr. High and Amarillo High School (once a sandie always a sandie). She continued her education at Lindenwood College and TCU prior to meeting her future husband 1st Lt. Ronald Kordas. They married in 1966 and a year later their son Steven was born in La Grange, Illinois. After they returned to Amarillo, Stephanie graduated from West Texas State University, where she was employed as a graduate student and went on to get her master’s degree in Counseling. After 10 years of employment at W.T. and obtaining her Licensed Professional Counselor Certification she moved on to Amarillo College and worked in the Career Counseling Department for the next 23 years before retiring in August of 2003.

Stephanie enjoyed a variety of sports such as Bowling with her husband or watching Basketball, Football, Golf, Tennis, or Ice Skating. Her other favorite thing in life was traveling and meeting new people which she and her husband did before and after retirement, traveling to over 30 countries. Later in life she became interested in being a “partner in service” with her husband and joined the Amarillo Downtown Lions Club where they attended Lion International Conventions and worked together collecting and recycling eyeglasses for the Texas Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center.

Stephanie was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, John.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald Kordas; her son, Steven Kordas and wife Heather; her three exceptional grandsons, Ashton, Kerry, and Jody; her cousin, Elizabeth Ann Powell; her brother-in-law, Donald and wife Joyce, and their daughter Kelsey, and darling granddaughter, Bella; and her husband’s relatives she enjoyed visiting.
