Steve was born April 3, 1960, in Burlington, North Carolina. He grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and was a 1978 graduate of R.J. Reynolds Senior High School. Steve attended Abilene Christian University and received a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Biology in 1983. He would go on to earn his Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from UNC Chapel Hill, a Master’s degree in History from West Texas A&M and a Ph. D. in History from Texas Tech University in 2019.

For the past 22-years, Steve worked as a business administrator for the OB/GYN department at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center branch in Amarillo, TX. He was respected and well-loved by all of his co-workers who came to know him after so many years. He also dedicated his time to online teaching and tutoring for West Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Steve’s number one priority was always family. He spent every minute he could with his wife and children as they grew up. He never missed a music recital or sporting event. His kids cherish the memories of evening walks and playing games with Dad. Steve was a life-long learner. He enjoyed reading books about history and the Church, watching documentaries, and listening to his favorite music from his youth.

Steve and his family have attended Southwest Church of Christ for the past 26 years. The highlight of Steve’s week was teaching with the HALI Project, a ministry that serves developmentally delayed adults. Despite his introverted personality, he strived to serve others with his thoughtful and caring nature. He was loving, giving, and tender-hearted. Steve was known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor. Steve was a diligent man of prayer. He trusted and loved the Lord and wanted to be more and more like Jesus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Carolyn Eldridge. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Julie. He is also survived by his daughters, Emily, of Los Angeles, CA, and Sarah, of Springfield, MO, son Jackson, of Amarillo, sister, Tracy Reynolds (Greg) of Murray, KY and uncle, Thom Shields, of Tallahassee, FL. He is survived by 6 nieces, 3 nephews, 5 great-nieces, 4 great-nephews, 4 brothers-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law, and a wonderful mother-in-law, Grannygirl.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the HALI Project through Southwest Church of Christ (4515 Cornell Street, Amarillo, TX 79109) or High Plains Children’s Home (11461 S Western St, Amarillo, TX 79118).
