Steven Cornelius Rumley, 58, of Amarillo, TX died on March 5, 2021, at home, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer.

Steve was born in Spearman, Texas, on July 28, 1962. In May of 1980, he graduated from Knox City High School.  Steve attended TSTI in Amarillo and worked as an ASE Master Certified Chevrolet Technician for over 25 years in Dalhart, Texas.  He took great pride in working hard, supporting his family, being active in Elks Lodge (BPOE #2390), and his community.

Steve cherished friendships that lasted a lifetime.  Friends from all walks of his life supported, celebrated, counseled, and cheered him.  He often ended his phone conversations with “love you, brother”. Steve was a sports man, from his earliest days of playing sports to, putting it mildly, his fanatical and steadfast support of the Dallas Cowboys and the Spurs.  Steve loved music.  He made a point to attend live concerts, could recite lyrics from any number of songs, and loved deafening sound levels from his stereo. Steve’s laugh was full bellied but his giggles were infectious. With a dry satirical twist, he surprised and entertained with his sense of humor and wit. Travel was a delight, exploring new places and creating memories.  He consumed news, journal articles, sports statistics, historical documentaries and alien invasion theories, being well versed in discussing any topic (often with strong opinions!).  Above all, Steve loved his family, sacrificing personal goals to show his dedication to his daughter and others.  His Christian faith brought him comfort as he neared the end of his life.

Steve is survived by his loving daughter, Mary Spencer Rumley, and his love and partner, Raji Bolton, both from Amarillo.  He is also survived by his mother Adele Rumley of Abilene, his uncle, Edwin Cornelius, of Galveston, sisters, Shelly Rumley and Sharon Rumley Leal, of Fort Worth, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and the mother of his daughter.

The Rumley Family would like to thank his dear friends and his caregivers.  Also, thanks to his Doctors, Milan Patel and James Lemert.

A memorial service will be held in Amarillo on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 2:00 P.M., at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Memorials can be made in his name to one’s favorite charity. Donations can also be made to the Knox City High School Scholarship Fund. Contact the KC Principal by mail: Mark Tucker, Knox City High School, 606 East Main, Knox City, Texas 79529.
