Susan Upshaw Lidstone
Susan Upshaw Lidstone, 77, of San Antonio and previously Canon City, Colorado, and Amarillo, Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
Susan was born in Amarillo, Texas on October 4, 1945, to Irving Fancher Upshaw, Jr. and Margaret Jane Higgins. Susan attended Amarillo public schools and graduated from Tascosa High School in 1962. She continued her education and received a bachelor’s degree from Grinnell College, Grinnell, Iowa.
Susan began her working career as a flight stewardess with TWA Airlines. She had several other jobs including working as a bookkeeper for her brother for several years. Susan then returned to school and received her teacher certification and became an excellent math teacher, always looking for new ways to help her students understand math concepts.
She was preceded in death by her parents Irving Fancher Upshaw, Jr. and Margaret Jane Higgins, and her brother Irving Fancher “Totch” Upshaw, III.
Susan is survived by her daughter Stella Ann Kerney (Ralph) of Florence, Colorado, her son Jesse Allan Lidstone of Denver, Colorado, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and her former spouse Tim Lidstone (Terre).
Susan’s request of no public funeral service will be respected; therefore, only a small, private gathering will be held in her honor. Susan will be laid to rest at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.
The family requests that any memorials be in the form of a donation in her name to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch where Susan taught at Blakemore Middle School. Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79105-9985, or a charity of choice.
