Suzette Barton

1946 – 2022

Amarillo, TX

Suzette Barton, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, left her family on Earth and went home to her Father in Heaven on April 3, 2022. In her last days, she was surrounded by those she most loved and who loved her most in return.

Suzette was born on August 6, 1946, to Fay Taylor McBride Barton and Paul Barton in Lamesa, Texas. Suzette graduated from Monterey Senior High School in 1964. Suzette then spent the next four years driving her Volkswagen to the Texas Tech campus or the Soda Shop, where she spent her time as the sweetest “Soda Jerk” to pay her way through college. Suzette graduated from Texas Technological College with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Education.

Suzette’s 44-year teaching career took her to many places. She taught at schools in Lamesa, Brownfield, Abilene, Amarillo, Bushland, and Canyon. Her final days of teaching ended in 2014 with her retirement from Randall High School. Suzette’s first 10 years of teaching were in General Education. For the remaining 34 years of her career, she found her true gift in teaching Special Education. She believed this to be her true calling that was a “God thing.” Her true life purpose. She held strongly to the belief that this work gave back to her much more than she ever put in. She was so very blessed by “her special children.”

Suzette often said that everywhere she taught, she met people who changed her life for the better. She was forever grateful for the love of her friends who became family, especially those that shared their children with her.

Suzette is survived by nieces Kari Stephens, Staci Gates, Kristi Bryan, nephews Ken Holt and Kevin Holt, and the “daughter of her heart” Jessica Ervin-Battles.

Services for our dear Suzette will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel in Amarillo.

“ I’ll be waiting for you all in Heaven. I Love You.”
