Sylvia Ortega, 41, of Amarillo, TX passed away August 4, 2020.

Memorial services will be at 4:00 P.M., Saturday, August 8, 2020, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Dr. G. A. Roach officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Sylvia Ortega was born in Spearman, Texas on November 3, 1978 to Adan and Lorenza Ortega.   Sylvia was a 1998 Spearman High School graduate and Special Olympics athlete.  After graduation she spent time at home with her parents and in 2016 moved to Amarillo to reside with her brother Jr. Ortega, sister-in-law Jolene Ortega, and niece Aleksa Solis.

Sylvia’s hobbies included a multitude of arts and crafts that she took pride in making for her family and friends. She could be found shopping for supplies at her local Walmart and Hobby Lobby. Holiday celebration was very important to but her favorite one was Valentine’s Day because Sylvia loved Love.  A sweet baked desert was requested from her niece for her holiday parties.

Sylvia is survived by her father, Adan Ortega Sr.; her bothers, Jr. (Jolene) Ortega, and Mikey (Joclin) Ortega; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces. The family would like to recognize the staff of Legacy Nursing and Rehabilitation for their love and dedication of care Sylvia received.

Sylvia was preceded in death by grandmother, Enemecia (Mecha) Herrera; grandfather, Francisco Ortega; mother, Lorenza Ortega; and brother, Louis Ortega.

  4. My prayers and condolences to the Ortega family. Sylvia was a sweet person, always smiling. She was a little rambunctious in high school, but so kind. Wishing you all strength and comfort.
