Thelma Opdyke Milbern, 94, of Dumas, TX passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, May 11, 2020.

Graveside services will be held on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at the Dumas Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox.

Thelma was born on February 11, 1926 in Neodesha, Kansas to William and Bertha Opdyke.  She graduated from Dumas High School in 1944. She married Clarence Milbern on June 8, 1944 in Machovic, Texas at the old American Zinc Housing. She was a homemaker and member of the First Christian Church.  She had was a Cub Scout Den mother for her sons when they were young and had belonged to the Bertha Home and Demonstration Club for many years.  She was a lifetime Democrat and loved to watch baseball.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Milbern; and two grandchildren, Christina Milbern and William Milbern.

She is survived by three sons, Bruce Milbern and wife Linda of Dumas, David Milbern and wife Kay of Canyon, Stacy Milbern and wife Carla of Dumas; ten grandchildren, Robin, Jarrod, Rusti, Jason, Logan, Hayden, Logan, Jarod, Chelsea, Brandon; twelve great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday at the funeral home.

In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be sent to the American Legion, Post #224, P.O. Box 1176, Dumas, Texas 79029.

  7. Dear Milbern Family, there are no miraculous words at moments such as this. If they exist, they have eluded mankind to this day. Words can make you laugh and words can make you cry, but words can never take away the pain and heartaches that come with the loss of a beloved Mother. Knowing these things, this note is being sent in great sincerity; not to try and ease the pain, but to give comfort you get in knowing there is someone thinking of you, who really cares. I hope you can feel it. Your Mother was a very special lady … a friend to all.
