Theodore Severiano Baca

Theodore S. Baca, 93, of Mosquero, NM passed away on November 16, 2023, in the home of his daughter in Amarillo, TX. Services will be at Saint Joseph’s Church, 4122 S. Bonham, Amarillo, TX. The rosary on December 14, 2023, at 6:00 PM and a mass on December 15, 2023, 9:30 AM, celebrant will be Father Gabriel Garcia. A burial will follow in Mosquero time to be determined. Pallbearers, his grandson, Jonathan Baca and nephews, Tony Baca, Louie Baca, Phillip Baca, Tommy Baca, Jeff Collins, and Mike Hill.

Theodore was born in Mosquero to Eufracio and Florencia Baca on February 21, 1930. He grew up on his parents’ ranch helping with the ranch and farm duties at an early age. There were ten children including Theodore. He grew up during the Great Depression of the 30’s and remembered the Dust Bowl. His Mother would hang wet sheets over the windows to try to keep the dirt out of the house. In high school he played basketball as the center on the team as he was the tallest and was on the track team where he threw the shot put. After graduating high school, he was drafted into the US Army in 1951 during the Korean War. He was stationed Germany where he learned enough German to speak to the pretty German girls. He did travel to Switzerland sightseeing. He met and dated his future wife, Elvera Arguello when he was 20 years old. Their dates included going to the movies and going to Rigoni’s ballroom to skate, bowl, and dance. They married on January 2, 1954. He was a cowboy for most of his young life at his family’s ranch and he also worked at the Bar T Cross Camp for the Mitchell Ranch. He worked for the New Mexico Boys’ School in Springer, NM as a guard. Also, working for other ranches, the ice plant. He went to work for the New Mexico State Highway Department for 26 years, 15 of which he was the supervisor. He ran a mowing machine eventually working his way up to supervisor.

Preceded in death by his parents, Eufracio and Florencia, wife, Elvera, his grandson, Jacob, siblings Eloy, Luis, Tomie, Lucy, Petra, Flora.

Theodore is survived by his children, Rebecca and Thomas Robinson, James and Vanessa Baca, their children, Jonathan Baca and Marissa and Andrew Andersen, great-granddaughter Amelia and daughter, Bernadette Baca, sisters, Margie Trainer, Bea Collins and brother, Paul Baca. Many nieces and nephews.

Theodore was a devoted husband and Father.  His family was always his priority.  He is loved dearly and will be missed.
