Thomas Edward Frisbie

Thomas Edward Frisbie, 69, of Amarillo, TX died Sunday, February 18, 2024.

Memorial Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Pastor David House of Valleyview Church of the Nazarene officiating.

Tommy was born July 3, 1954, in Amarillo, TX to Joyce Annice (Carroll) and Jerry Gene Frisbie. Following his graduation from Tascosa High School, he worked at a greenhouse where he developed a lifelong love of plants and trees. He married Virginia Gauna on August 5, 1972, in Amarillo, TX and together they started a cleaning business Frisbie Janitorial Services, which they operated for more than 50 years. During the 1980’s, Tommy also opened a store at Western Plaza Mall called Frisbie Bros. Piano Company where he sold Young Chang pianos. He enjoyed getting to know many people through his work over the years and made many friends. He was a quick learner in business and by nature had a curious spirit.

Tommy loved collecting art sculptures and had an interest in ancient coins. He loved all kinds of music and over the past couple years, one of his favorite hobbies was listening to music with family and friends and playing his music loud! He loved golf, riding his motorcycle, and giving ATV rides. He also had a love of trees and he planted over 300 trees during his lifetime. Tommy enjoyed finding gifts for friends and family. He loved spending time with Virginia, eating breakfast with her every day, sitting on the porch visiting with her, and going on rides together.

In the months following his daughter Jennifer’s death from breast cancer in 2021, Tommy began to feel ill. Eventually in December of 2021 he was diagnosed with cancer (Mesothelioma) as well. Despite the grief he felt and feeling very ill at times, he maintained a positive outlook. Whether he was in the hospital or receiving chemotherapy, when he was asked how he was doing, his response was always, “I’m happy” or “I’m happy and healthy” or “I can’t complain”. He truly loved meeting people and was interested in learning their stories. Tommy made friends with people wherever he went.

His two grandchildren, Kyzer and KyaLani, were precious to him, and he truly cherished the time he shared with them. He loved being a father and loved his daughters, Jennifer and Melody, very much.

Thomas was preceded in death by his mom, Joyce Frisbie in 2004, and his oldest daughter, Jennifer Frisbie in 2021.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Frisbie, of Amarillo, TX, a daughter, Melody Frisbie of Amarillo, TX; his father, Jerry Frisbie, of Amarillo, TX, two brothers, David Frisbie, and Mark Frisbie and wife Carolyn, all of Amarillo, TX; and two grandchildren, Kyzer Frisbie and KyaLani Frisbie, both of Amarillo, TX.
