Thomas “Tom” William Hanson

Thomas “Tom” William Hanson of Amarillo, formerly of Panhandle, passed away on September 1, 2022.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, September 6, 2022, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Jerry Lane and Danny Farrell officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Tom was born in Amarillo, TX on November 29, 1949, to Oneta and Isaac Hanson. He graduated from Panhandle High School in 1968. He excelled in athletics playing football, basketball, and track. His senior year, he was named All-State Halfback. After graduation, he attended Texas Christian University where he was a Halfback for the football squad. He also attended North Texas State and West Texas State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He earned an invitation to try out camp for the Oklahoma City Wranglers semi-pro football squad.

Tom was the past president of Panhandle Lions Club and the Founder and Director of Panhandle Alumni Games for American Cancer Society, a past member of Panhandle Quarterback Club, a past member of the Panhandle Chamber of Commerce, and a coach for Kids Inc. He also was a long-time member of Hillside Christian Church.

His favorite things to do were, catfishing with family, golf, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.

Tom was the owner and manager of a BBQ restaurant business for 20 years, and a landman for an Oil and Gas business for 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oneta and Isaac Hanson; sister, Billie Jean Sullivan; brothers-in-law, Dale Joe Roselius, and Mike McKee; nephews, Danny Joe Roselius, Shawn P. Sullivan, and Mykle McKee; and niece, Jill Sullivan Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Hanson; children, Chris Budd and wife Chandra, Robyn Weaver and husband Brad, and Bryce Hanson and wife Lynn; grandchildren, McKenzi McGill and husband Corbin, Keenan Weaver, Parker Weaver, Mazzy Budd, and Erin Priebe; and sister, Peggy Roselius.

Pallbearers will be Leslie Cleek, Brian Elliott, Hal Herndon, Matt Satterwhite, Wes Wester, Randy Griffith, Terry Wright, and Jay Bob Roselius.

Honorary Pallbearers will include, Windy Williams, Mark McAden, Gary Beddingfield, Keenan Weaver, Corbin McGill, and Ryan Mckee.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M., Sunday, September 4, 2022, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.
