Tommy “Gene” Rogers
Tommy “Gene” Rogers, 79 , of Amarillo, TX passed away March 28, 2023.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount.
Gene was born March 5, 1944 in Amarillo, TX to Mac and Ruth Rogers. He graduated from Borger High School in 1962 then received his Associate’s Degree from Amarillo College. Gene began his career with Pantex as an operator in 1978 and moved on to a Process Engineer. He retired from Pantex after 36 years then went to be a Contract Engineer for Sandia National Labs.
Gene belonged to many organizations including Amature Trap Shooters Association and was named President of the club from 1982-1983. He was also a member of Clarendon Country Club and ran the Amarillo Gun Club from 1976-1980. Gene was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church and a volunteer firefighter in Howardwick, TX.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Rogers; parents, Mac and Ruth Rogers; and brother, Ricky Rogers.
Gene is survived by his son Shane Rogers and wife, Rachael of Ropesville, TX; brother, Dr. Garrett Lee Rogers of Jacksonville, NC; stepsons, Kevin Roberson and wife Gayle and Billy Don Roberson and wife Angela all of Howardwick, TX; grandchildren, Noah Rogers, Nick Rogers, Nate Rogers, Jaxon Reeves, Justin and Brandy Roberson, Wendy and Kevin Miller, Chase Roberson, Zack and Tiffany Roberson, Michael and Kelly Roberson, Stephanie and Jarrett Needham, Chad Keesee, and Brady Essary; and 11 great-grandchildren.
