After a lengthy illness, E. Troy Admire, 87, of Claude, TX peacefully passed through the gates of heaven on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 surrounded by his family at home.

Troy was born August 17, 1935, in Newlin, TX to E.B. and Emma Jean (Gregg) Admire.  When Troy was young, his father traveled through Dumas, TX while working wheat harvest. When he returned home, he said ‘We’re moving to God’s country’, and they raised their family in Dumas. At the age of 19, Troy lost his mother, then shortly after joined the navy, returning to Dumas to work as an apprentice in his father’s carpentry business. He married Donnas Jean Minton on October 9, 1957, in Dumas, TX, and they moved to California for a short time while Troy helped build a church. Upon returning to Dumas, Troy established Admire Construction Company in 1960, and they started their family. Troy embarked upon many hobbies throughout his life —ranging from bass fishing to arrowhead hunting to sports card collecting — pursuing each with vigor and passion, expanding his knowledge on each and sharing that with anyone who was interested. He was an avid reader and a great storyteller!

After living in Dumas and gaining a reputation as a solid businessman and master carpenter for many years, he sold his business to his oldest son, and Troy and Donnas moved to Del Rio, TX so he could enjoy some bass fishing on Lake Amistad. Medical issues brought them back to the Texas Panhandle where they eventually settled in the small community of Claude. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage restoring old lures and fishing equipment and would tell his many visitors he was living ‘in the best little country town in the Panhandle’.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, L. Wayne Admire and Bobby Admire.

Survivors include his wife, Donnas Admire, of Claude, TX; his children, Damon Admire and wife Christy, of Lake Tanglewood, TX, Belinda Lewis and husband Rodger, of Collinsville, OK, and Jason Admire, of Guymon, OK; his sister, Joy Hayes, of Dallas, TX; 7 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

  1. Troy was a great mentor to this young punk back in the early 70’s. He taught me a lot about carpentry and life. I wish I would of treated him half as good as he treated me. I loved this guy. Rest in Peace E.T.
