Virginia Anne Smith
Virginia Anne Smith, 73, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at her home in Amarillo, Texas.
There will be a memorial service at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, June 4, 2022, in the First Baptist Church Chapel in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Smith was born in Groom, Texas to the late Mark Watley and Georgia Spangler Watley in 1948. She attended Amarillo Bible Church, Evangelical Fellowship and later First Baptist Church. She graduated from Caprock High School in 1967 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1971, followed by a dual Master’s Degree in Education in 1973 from West Texas State University. Anne began her teaching career at Carver Elementary in 1972 before moving on to teach Honors English at Caprock High School from 1973-1977.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Terry; her sister, Elaine Spencer; and brother, Jimmy Watley.
She is survived by sisters, Carol Gowdy, and Debbie Jones; sons, Gary Smith and wife, Lisa, and Kent Smith and wife, Cheyenne; grandchildren, Brady and Tanna Willimon, Avery Smith, River Smith, Alissa Smith, and Mason Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
