Wayland Jay Claxton

held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 19, 2023, at Paramount Baptist Church.

Wayland blessed this Earth on April 11, 1966, to Wayne Wayland and Mary Nell Claxton. Jay graduated from Colorado City High School in 1984 and attended Junior College at Western Texas College. Jay furthered his education at West Texas State, where he met the love of his life, Cheri Scott.

January 14, 1989, the two were wed in Tatum, New Mexico, and were blessed to share 34 adventurous years together. My Jay had a heart of gold and a laugh that brightened any room. His commitment to our marriage, regardless of the season we were in, I always knew I had his unfailing love.

Jay devoted his life to his faith and family. As a dad, he strived to instill in his children the importance of putting God first, a strong work ethic and selfless giving to others. Jay provided himself in his loyalty to his family, friends, and all of those he served. No one could find a friend more loyal than My Jay. He was known throughout the community for his kindness and giving nature, his willingness to go above and beyond for those in need and volunteered his time for a multitude of fundraising events.

Jay enjoyed watersports, golfing, being outdoors, camping and fishing with his family and friends. His favorite past time was splashing water and mud while blazing through The Rocky Mountains. Other passions in life that brought joy to Jay include:  grilling and hosting, hunting and above all else, making sweet memories with his family and friends.

Jay was known for his “Famous Pork Tenderloin”, his dependability, steadfast loyalty and his never wavering faith in his Lord and his Savior.

After 13 years of dedication to the Walmart Corporation; 3 of which in a managerial role, Jay felt called by the Lord to pursue his lifelong dream to serve his community as a peace officer. He took the utmost pride and considered it an honor to serve and protect. He regarded his fellow law enforcement brothers and sisters as family.

Jay is preceded, in death by his parents, Wayne Wayland Claxton and Mary Nell Claxton.

He is survived by his Wife, Cheri; Children, Brittany Claxton and husband Ryan Jordan, Jay Ryan Claxton and wife Mackenzie, and Jaci Claxton; Grandchildren, Jase Claxton, Kirkland Claxton, Tatum Claxton and Hamilton Claxton; brother, Chuck Claxton and wife Marcy; sister in law, Kerilyn Brown and husband William; brothers in law, Dale Scott and wife Krista and Rex Bostwick; nieces and nephews, Colten Claxton and wife Riley, Morgan Claxton, Kaedan and Kyler Bostwick, and Caleb and Kailey Scott; as well as his loving Father-in-law and Mother-in-law, Kerry and Phyllis Scott who he loved and adored.
