Werner Gerhard Vering, 74, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on April 12, 2023.

Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 22, 2023, at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Father Anthony Neusch as celebrant.

Werner was born in Amarillo, Texas on September 30, 1948, to Johanna and Gerhard Vering. He grew up working on the family farm between Amarillo and Bushland on Route 66 off of the old highway. His family grew wheat, grain, and had 30 cows. After he graduated from high school, he worked for the family on the farm until he joined the United States Army in 1971. While in the Army, Werner was stationed in Korea and Germany as an air traffic controller. After his discharge from the Army, he received his CDL and began driving trucks at the age of 25. He loved driving trucks and having the ability to see his siblings on his road trips. Werner could often be found having breakfast and lunch at the Pancake Station, and dinner at Country Pride. He loved visiting with his friends on the phone, if they did not answer, he would stop by their home to check in. He loved Bugs Bunny. Werner was a jokester, he would use duct tape for wrapping paper.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johanna and Gerhard Vering; and his siblings, Paul Vering, and Anita Vering.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen Kent and husband Daniel; siblings, Bernard Vering and wife Diana, Mary Ann Carper and husband Bob, Trudy Vering, and Carol Joan Michael and husband Phillip; four grandchildren; eight honorary great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
