William “Bill” Shellberg, Jr.

William “Bill” Shellberg Jr, 87, of Amarillo, TX passed away Tuesday January 17, 2023.  He was lovingly called “Doodaddy” by his grandchildren.

Viewing and visitation will be from 4:00 – 5:00 pm Saturday, January 21, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount Blvd.  A celebration of life will be held January 28, at 11:00 am at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel followed by a private family burial.

William was born in Lordsburg, NM on October 19, 1935, to William Cantrell Shellberg Sr and Irene Marek Shellberg.  He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1954.  He then attended Amarillo College where he played basketball and baseball and earned his associates degree in 1957.  In 1959, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from West Texas State College.  Following graduation, Bill completed Electrical Apprentice school becoming a Journeyman electrician with the local IBEW 602 union.  He later earned his Master Electrician’s license.  He retired from the union October 2000.  He was also a Mason.

Bill married Alice Ann Walker of Amarillo on July 28, 1961.  They were married over 61 years and had two children, a daughter, Amber Mischnick of Austin Texas and son, Tray Shellberg of Littleton Colorado.

Bill loved all outdoor activities.  He often bird hunted in Texas and enjoyed fishing for trout in Tres Ritos, NM.  He enjoyed gardening and took pride in keeping his yard in pristine condition.  He enjoyed watching sports on TV but was especially fond of the Dallas Cowboys.  Bill was an animal lover and spent countless hours working with his dogs teaching them commands and tricks.  Bill’s pride and joy were his grandchildren and great granddaughter.  He was invested in their activities and loved engaging in each of their unique interests.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Irene Shellberg.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Shellberg; children, Amber Mischnick and husband Kevin, son, Tray Shellberg and wife Lauren; grandchildren, Madison Schnitker and husband Andrew, Lexi Mischnick, Jack Mischnick, Will Shellberg; great granddaughter, Lila Schnitker; a brother, Lee Paul Shellberg; and furry rescue companion Teddy.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Texas Panhandle Pet Savers, Sharing Hope Ministry, or your favorite charity.
