Peggy Howell, 77, of Amarillo, passed from this world and into the arms of her Heavenly Father on November 9, 2020. Graveside celebration of life services will be held on Friday, November 13th at 2:00 PM at Llano Cemetery with Cecil Burch, pastor of North Amarillo Church of Christ officiating. Viewing will be on Thursday, November 12th at Boxwell Brothers located at 2800 Paramount Blvd during normal business hours and Friday morning from until noon. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Peggy was born on January 20, 1943 in El Paso, Texas to Sam Lindsey and Lois Hulsey. She spent her childhood in Texas, California, Georgia and Florida. She graduated from Georgia Christian School in Valdosta, Georgia in 1961 as the valedictorian of her senior class. She moved to Amarillo in 1969 where she made a home for her family.
She married Tom Howell in 1962. They had one son, Kevin Todd Howell, of Amarillo.
Peggy loved to read, especially the Bible, and she loved the Lord. She attended North Amarillo Church of Christ. She was one of the most giving people you would ever meet. Like her mother, she loved to collect ceramic dolls and had many beautiful ones on display in her home.
Peggy was an advocate for children and spent many years working with them and their families. She spent a large majority of her career at High Plains Children’s Home before moving to the Texas Department of Child Protective Services, retiring from there in 2005. She found fulfillment and joy in being the voice for children that did not have a voice for themselves.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse Tom, and a sister, Gail Forestin and husband Dan.
She is survived by her son Kevin Howell and wife Jennifer of Amarillo; brother Rick Lindsey of Medford, Oregon; sister Debbie Floyd and husband Gary of Amarillo; five grandchildren: Brittany Russell, Felicity Dominguez-Howell, Lindsey Howell, Jasmin Howell and Xavier Howell; three great-grandchildren, Brady Franco, Dhaliah Gibson and David Murillo as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 1-800-822-6344, Memorial Code #22147939.
