Phyllis Louis Gruner went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, October 4, 2021, after a long fight against cancer.

Phyllis was born on January 27, 1951, to Louis (Slim) and Helen Biddle, in Amarillo Texas. She was the baby of their 4 children and often used that to her advantage.  She graduated from Vega High School in 1969 and then attended West Texas State University where she met the love of her life, Bob Gruner. They were married and had 3 amazing children.  Bob and Phyllis just recently celebrated 50 great years of marriage.

Phyllis enjoyed traveling, attending plays, playing jokes on her family, chasing after her grandchildren in all of their activities, and spending time with her friends and family. She loved her entire family fiercely and would do anything for them. Phyllis’s greatest love was her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved to read and listen to His word. She enjoyed attending Bible Study and Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Canyon.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, Bob, of Amarillo Texas. Her children; Holly Byrd and husband Chad of Canyon Texas, Brad Gruner and wife Heather of Winter Haven Florida, and Heidi Gruner of Amarillo Texas. Grandchildren Mason and Makenna Byrd and Brooklyn and Berkley Gruner. Her Siblings; Elizabeth Brown and husband Billy, Nancy Jefferies and Husband John and Jerry Biddle and wife Charlene.  Her sister-in-law, Cindy Gruner as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her in-laws Forrest and Juanita Gruner and a nephew, Peter Brown.

Viewing will be Friday, October 8, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Amarillo, from 6:30-7:30. Service will be Saturday, October 9, 2021, at First Baptist Church Canyon, beginning at 10:30. Burial will be after the service at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Amarillo Downtown Women’s Center or to your local Women’s Center.

  1. My deepest sympathy to Bob, Heidi, Holly, Chad, Brad, Mason, Elizabeth and all of your sweet families. She loves all of you so much! I love Phyllis and greatly admire her strength and character. I treasured our friendship and loved spending time with her and her wonderful family. God bless all of you! Phyllis will be greatly missed by so many. Heaven just got even better.

  2. Phyllis and I talked within the past month and spoke of times growing up. She was very strong and completely comfortable knowing her heavenly home and her Heavenly Father. Our condolences to all the family. I know she will be missed.

  3. Phyllis will be missed. She was a wonderful witness to everyone during her long battle with cancer. She had the warmest smile and you felt like you had known her forever when you first met her.

  4. Bob and Families ; I was sadden to read of Phyllis’s passing and know you will all miss her. Trust in the Lord and he will give you strength at this time, and comfort your hurting hearts.
