Carolyn A. Richardson, 85, of Vega, TX passed away on March 8, 2022.

Services for Carolyn A. Richardson will be held in the Vega United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Paul Evans officiating.

Carolyn Anne Richardson was born on November 18, 1936, in Pampa, TX to William and Jackie Fletcher. Carolyn grew up in Amarillo, TX where she learned to play the piano and her father and stepfather would bring her beautiful souvenirs from around the world.

While attending Amarillo High School in Amarillo, TX, Carolyn became a penpal with her best friend’s uncle, Ralph Slutz, while he was stationed in Alaska with the U.S. Army. When Ralph returned home from Alaska and was discharged from the U.S. Army, Ralph and Carolyn married on January 7, 1954, in Tucumcari, New Mexico.

Carolyn and Ralph had four children together with three sons, Ronald Charles Charles Slutz, Joe Marvin Slutz, James Alan Slutz, and daughter, Sue Anne Slutz. During her time married to Ralph, Carolyn became a snake wrangler, substitute teacher, mother to every kid in the neighborhood, and the most requested pianist in Oldham County.

Ralph passed away on December 29, 1979, Carolyn being the strong woman she was got a job as the Oldham County Tax Assessor. She met Wayne Richardson, he thought she was beautiful and came to visit her often. Their bond was strengthened through their love of music. Carolyn and Wayne were married on December 5, 1992.

While married to Wayne, Carolyn traveled all over the United States to seed conferences. Carolyn and Wayne would travel to see their grandkids play sports, and to music concerts where she would play the piano for them. Carolyn became the librarian at the Oldham County Library. As the librarian, she met many people, helped students research projects, helped tourists passing through, and Vega residents with a passion for reading.

Carolyn loved her family, dinosaurs, and history (not always in that order).

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, William Fletcher and Jackie Dell; her husband, Ralph Slutz; her second husband, Wayne Richardson; and her oldest son, Ronald (Chic) Slutz.

Carolyn is survived by Chic’s wife, Patricia Slutz of Middelton, ID; sons, Joe Slutz of Huntsville, TX, and James and Robin Slutz of San Jon, NM; daughter, Sue Slutz of Lubbock, TX; nine grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. – 6:30 P.M., Friday, March 11, 2022, at the Vega United Methodist Church.
