Donna Lackey Sheets, 88, of Amarillo, TX passed away on January 4, 2022.

Graveside service will be held tomorrow at Lieb Cemetery in Stinnett, TX at 11 am, on January 6, 2022.

In 1933 in the middle of the dust bowl and depression, Donna Lee was born on the Lackey homestead 14 miles southeast of Spearman. Her grandparents settled there in 1900 coming from Rome, Georgia in two covered wagons with 25 head of cattle. They settled on 5 sections of land to raise cattle. They also raised 6 children living many years in a half dugout.

She was the only child born to John F. Lackey and Alice Huffman Lackey. They settled on part of the Lackey land and built a home near where the Lackey School House would be established.
Donna attended Morse and Spearman schools.

She married Donald Garrett Allen in 1951. They had one daughter Karen Elizabeth in 1952.

Later, Donna married S. B. Sheets. They had three daughters, Rebecca Ann (stillborn), Sharon Colleen, and Sue Ellen. Farming and ranching became their life’s work.

Karen married Woodie Durham and had one son, Travis Durham. Karen became a nurse practitioner and later married Wayne Woodward.

Sharon worked for many years as a systems analyst and married Richard Lesly. Their sons are John Jeffery and Glen.

Sue Ellen was named after her Great, Great Grandmother and she married Randall Lynn Felder. They have Jessica Nicole (married to Chase Bost), Lauren Felder, and Austin Felder. Donna had many Great-Grandchildren.

Donna worked as an oil production clerk for 3 separate companies and was involved in Women in Farm Economics (WIFE) and went to Washington DC and met with Senator John Tower. She painted in oil and watercolors, loved making quilts, and played the organ for the Church. Living at Brookdale and then The Clairmont, she spent many hours at the bridge table or putting together puzzles while laughing with her friends. S.B.’s family and her friends became the brothers and sisters she never had. The Bible was her favorite guidance and inspiration. She loved the Lord and Jesus more than words can describe.

On January 4th, 2022, at the age of 88, Donna left her earthly home and went to be in her heavenly home with her Father God and Jesus Christ.

Source unknown but found written in Donna’s handwriting.
At last, there was hope for the future, a buried past, and each new day granting me wings to fly like an eagle as time goes soaring on and filling me with a new song of faith. Dreams can come true, who was it that said they couldn’t?

God does use one’s talents and I was really blessed as he gave so much to me. I’m glad to share them. Praise God! I know, whatever happens, God’s joy and peace will sustain me, and I roll all cares on him for he is my fortress every day.
