Harry James “Bud” Herber, 68, died unexpectedly Monday, June 21, 2021, at Northwest Texas Hospital.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry J. Herber and Leona Sedonia Kraft, and his wife of 17 years, Lisa Lei Amersek.

He is survived by his daughter Hannah Michaela Herber and numerous friends.

Bud was born August 1, 1952, in Shattuck, OK.  His family moved to Amarillo not long after and he graduated from Caprock High School, Class of 1970, followed by an attendance of Texas Tech University.  He soon moved to Phoenix, AZ where he met Lisa, and both would return to Amarillo in 1986.  They married in 1989 and would have a daughter Hannah, in 1993.  He began his lifelong career in the auto industry with Nissan, followed by joining with Ray Crawford in starting an auto parts business in 1991.  He would later purchase the company and maintained Herber Enterprises until his retirement in 2017.

Bud was also a longtime member of the Amarillo Rifle and Pistol Club and would become Vice-President and later President from 2014 to 2018.  He was an accomplished marksman and achieved 22 Rimfire Bench Rest Champion and Military Rifle Bench Rest Champion several times the last few years.  He was also a dedicated to God and taught Sunday school at Paramount Baptist Church along with his wife.  He enjoyed many such hobbies as gunsmithing, playing and constructing guitars, music, and art.  He was an intelligent, humorous, and loyal friend and loving father and will be greatly missed by friends and family.

A visitation in lieu of a funeral will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

  1. I am so glad we got to visit a couple of weeks ago. You have been one of my best and most trusted friends for the last 40 years and I will miss you greatly.
