Jackie Duane Glidewell, 77, of Amarillo, died Friday, December 31, 2021.

Memorial services will be at 5:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 4, 2022, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Jackie was born on December 1, 1944, in Cooper, Texas to Pauline (Ponie) Lindsey and Joy Glidewell. Jackie graduated from Palo Duro High school and enlisted in the United States Navy. From there, he served in Vietnam on the USS Tacoma. He married Betty Jo Armer on May 28, 1971 in Amarillo. He had been a tech specialist in the natural gas field for over 45 years, working for Colorado Interstate Gas, Coastal, El Paso, and finally retiring from Pioneer at the age of 71.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pauline (Ponie) and Fisher Starks; father, Joy and stepmother,  Edna Glidewell; brother, Mike Starks; and daughter, Laura Glidewell.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Glidewell;  sisters, Lawanda Glidewell Sauls, Jayne Starks, Biddy and Adam Garcia, Annette and Alan Odom, and Al and Amanda Glidewell; daughters, Christie and Brad Knutson and Jordan Glidewell; and granddaughter, Kirstlyn Griego.

  1. I first met Jack when he joined CIG and I was just a summer casual in the late ‘60’s. When I went to work full time for the company in the mid 70’s, Jack was one of the friendly faces I saw and knew and he helped in more ways than one can imagine to make my career a successful one. Jack became a life long friend and his passing brings much sorrow. Prayers abound for Betty, the girls and family. RIP good friend!

  2. So sad of Jack’s passing . We’ve been friends since we were six years old and also worked together at CIG. You are in our thoughts and prayers Betty and girls.

  3. I worked with Jack for many years. He was a good to help at any time. Also taught me as I was working with him. Just a good guy to be around

  4. Jack and I worked together for many years and he knew what he was doing in the gas field for sure. He was always willing to help the guys and teach us what we needed to know. I, for one, will really miss Jack! He was a great guy! RIP Jack!

  5. I was so saddened to hear of Jackie’s passing. He was one of my brother Kenneth’s best friends and I remember him well from when we were all just kids growing up on the north side of town. He had a wonderful smile and laugh. I am sure he will be missed by his family and friends, and my sympathies go out to everyone who loved him.

  6. Jackie is my cousin. I loved to hear him play the guitar. He was very good at playing the guitar. He would practice and play with his Uncle Troy, and to hear them play together was a treat. Jackie was a very nice man.

  7. We were so sorry to learn of Jack’s passing. He truly was a great man. Having met Jack and serving with him in the Navy aboard the US Tacoma and becoming life long friends, needless to say He , Betty and the girls are in our thoughts and prayers. He will forever hold a special place in our hearts, Love Joe & Connie
