Jim Jones Brewer, Sr. (84) and his dearly loved wife, Patricia Ann “Triss” Brewer (83), passed away on January 5, 2022, just as they lived—in perfect unison. Their commitment to and love for each other was evident to everyone who knew them and is reflected in the lives of those they leave behind.

Jim Brewer was born April 4, 1937, in Erick, Oklahoma. Triss Henderson Brewer was born March 13, 1938, in Pampa, Texas. They died just hours apart on January 5, 2022, in Amarillo, Texas. They celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on December 27, 2021.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, 1208 S. Tyler St., Amarillo, Texas on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with Dr. Howie Batson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, Texas. A reception honoring Jim and Triss will be held immediately following the memorial service at 619 S. Tyler, Suite 100, Amarillo, Texas.

Jim Brewer leaves a legacy of service and friendship. He was devoted to serving others and to filling each day with good humor and laughter. He had a distinguished career as a police officer and detective for the Amarillo Police Department and as Vice President of Operations at First National Bank of Amarillo. At the tender age of six, Jim worked as a shepherd in California and spent many hours alone. He devoted the rest of his life to cultivating friendships and was never alone again. He was a self-sacrificing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Triss Brewer never met a stranger and was known for extending love and wisdom to everyone she met. She was a devoted grandmother and a fiercely proud great-grandmother. Triss was genuinely interested in the well-being of others and people were quick to trust her. She enjoyed working and was especially fulfilled through connections she made with students in Amarillo ISD and Amarillo College. Her professional life continued well into her 70s. She was protective of her husband and son, and her love was a cornerstone to their lives.

Jim and Triss are survived by their only son, Jim J. Brewer, who will miss them every day of his life; their daughter-in-law Ronda Brewer; their grandchildren and their spouses: Jori and Henry Thompson, Jinna and Chuck Barrett, J.J. and Stefanie Brewer, and Jodi and Mason Dale; and great-grandchildren Wyatt, Jude, and Archer Thompson, Bailey Barrett, and Charlee Brewer.

Triss and Jim were peaceful in their faith. Triss’s favorite verse was John 3:16. The love they poured into others will spill over into many generations and they will be deeply missed.

Jim J. Brewer suggests memorial contributions be made to The Buffalo Council, 619 S. Tyler, Suite 100, Amarillo, TX 79101, to provide scholarships for WTAMU students and Amarillo College students transferring to WTAMU.

To the captain.

  17. Gosh darn, Jim J., I’m so sorry and saddened to hear about your parents. It’s never easy to lose our parents, but both on the same day is unspeakable. Words cannot express my sympathy, so I wish you strength, healing, and happier days soon. They certainly did a great job raising the treasure that you have always been.

  18. Jim J., It was heartfelt sadness when I heard of your mom and dads passing. Wadean “wendy” Stone, my mom, considered them the best of friends, ever since she and your mom worked at Speech and Hearing. Very few days went by without her referencing a conversation with either one or both of them. They were true friends. Mom has mourned the loss of both of them, and says there will be a hole in her heart for a long time. She offers her Prayers to you and yours. You also have mine, as I loved them with her.

  19. Jim J and family. We send our love, respect, and gratitude for your Mom and Dad. Though we have tended to be distant cousins, our love for your parents and your family was close and intense. We knew you best through their stories, and their complete belief in your heroic abilities, and remarkable life! (and lives!) As you beautifully wrote, their deaths on the same day is somehow poetic, and symbolic of their lives. Know we love you. Know how we loved them. Prayers for their journey, and your peace.

I know you must still be trying to accept this overwhelming loss. Triss has always been one of my favorite Henderson cousins. No matter a person’s age she had a way of connecting with everyone. And Jim always had something funny to say. After the shock of the news, I knew this is the only way they would have it. I will miss our visits and hearing your Mom’s voice on the other end of the phone.

It was DD (Duane) Perkins who notified us. LU and many, many prayers.
