Malon James “Jim” Kirsch, 94, of Denton, TX passed away peacefully at home, on Tuesday, January 4th, 2022.

Visitation will be on Sunday, January 9, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., on Monday, January 10, 2022, at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, TX. 

Jim was born on September 12, 1927, in Nanty Glo, PA to Francis and Margaret Kirsch. Jim married Catherine Differ on August 30, 1947, in Baltimore, MD. They moved to Amarillo, TX in 1949. Jim retired in 1987 from CIG, after 31 years. He lived life to the fullest continuing to travel, play cards and dominoes, and visit casinos until shortly before his passing. He was proud of all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. 

Jim was preceded in death by a son, Karl Kirsch; son-in-law, Ben Roberts; and his beloved wife, Catherine Kirsch. 

Survivors include his children, Jim Kirsch Jr. and wife Celesta, of Anaconda, MT, Cathy Roberts, of Denton, TX, Von Kirsch and wife Beverly, of Amarillo, TX, Heidi Kirsch and husband John Millard, of Yukon, OK; grandchildren, Aaron Roberts and wife Cyndy, of Denton, TX, Aimee Kilgore and husband Hobart, of Denton, TX, Tim Kirsch and wife Marie, of Amarillo, TX, Kimberly Hanson and husband Dave, of Amery, WI, Ingrid Kelly, of Auburn, CA, and Erika Fillary and husband Ed of Hong Kong; and great-grandchildren, Braydon and Kason Kilgore and girlfriend Bre Wickware, of Denton, TX, Jacob and Kennedy Roberts, of Denton, TX, Karl Kirsch, of Amarillo, TX, and Ryan and Jason Hanson of Amery, WI.

  1. Sorry to hear of your loss. He must have been a good man to raise Jim and Cathy who I knew in high school. Take care and bless your family.

  2. Carl and I always enjoyed visiting with Mr. Kirsch. Loved his stories of his childhood days all the way through his retirement. He shared how he was named Malon and how his children were named as well. He was a true gentleman and such a sweetheart. Sending prayers and strength for healing during this time. Heaven received a true Angel with a servant’s heart. Love to all.

  3. I’m so sorry for the loss of your sweet daddy. He was such a funny, caring man that all of our family adored. I can only imagine the reunion in heaven with your precious mom. Prayers for all of your family.

  4. Uncle Jim and I shared the same birthday seperated by 25 years, and while the miles may seperate us, that connection is ours for that 1 special day. He had a long life and his smile says it all. I wish we could have seen each other more. He walks in Paradise and is reunited with his loved ones. GOD Bless and be at Peace.

  5. So sorry for your loss. I worked at CIG with Jim at Fritch, TX and Keyes, OK. We had our differences but was a great guy and I learned from his hard work. May he RIP!

  6. So many fond memories with Jim, Catherine and the kids! I heard him being called Uncle Sonny once at his house and it drove him crazy when I called him that in front of all the guys at CIG. Praying for comfort for all of your family. RIP Jim…
